earleygallery Posted February 22, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted February 22, 2015 Hi, Â I have the Skopar which is a superb lens, really nothing to fault it. Â Would you like any of the others better though?... Â Bear in mind the framing issues if you go for a 40mm.
Lenshacker Posted February 22, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted February 22, 2015 The Thread Mount 35/1.7 Ultron can be found used for under $400, uses 39mm filters. Â I've seen the 40/2 Summicron go for $500 or so on the camera forums. It's a great lens, sharp. But it brings up the 50mm framelines- so takes some getting used to. wda Posted February 22, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted February 22, 2015 Have you considered a Leica Summicron or Summaron circa M4 vintage? I have an M3 and contemporary 50mm Summicron lens which is still an excellent performer even finding supporters in the digital age.
james.liam Posted February 22, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted February 22, 2015 Have you considered a Leica Summicron or Summaron circa M4 vintage? Â Not sure I'd recommend the Summaron as the one and only unless you're using a Monochrom or just B&W film. Â The CV 1,7/35 is due to be re-released in M mount sometime in March; the LTM version was much acclaimed. The CV 1,4/35 has spherical aberrations galore and focus shift to fend with. Learning curve there but it's one of the random M lenses that works with the Sony a7. Go figure. Â Don't think the Skopar can be beat for size, performance AND budget. Â But....don't forget the contrasty Zeiss 2,8/35. Quite a tiny wonder if you don't need the heft and extra stop of the f/2 Biogon.
NZed Posted February 23, 2015 Author Share #6 Â Posted February 23, 2015 I know very well the issues with the 40mm. I thought that if I bought one, I would just file down cam. Â So there has been two votes for the CV skopar so far! It sounds like a very tempting lens. The only problem is that it's not as fast as the others. Hmmmmm. Decisions decisions! Â In a month (or so) there is a Voigtlaander 35mm f/1.5 due out on the same build as the new Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Â It may be worth the wait. I promises to,be a very nice item. But I'll test out the zeiss f/2 too. I couldnt find the zeiss f/2.8 used in my area. so thats out sadly :/
indergaard Posted February 23, 2015 Share #9 Â Posted February 23, 2015 The Zeiss. It's one of the best 35mm lenses around.
MarkP Posted February 23, 2015 Share #10 Â Posted February 23, 2015 Agreed, without doubt the Zeiss would be my pick as a single lens. I should add that although more compact, the 2.8/35 Zeiss is supposed to be a very high contrast lens.

Dikaiosune01 Posted March 2, 2015 Share #12 Â Posted March 2, 2015 Another vote for the 35mm 2.5 Skopar pancake lens. Â It is a really wonderfully perfect lens. Wonderfully small. Wonderfully Discrete. Wonderfully sharp. Wonderfully minimal distortion. Wonderful out of focus bits. Wonderful rendering. Â The only reason not to get the skopar is because you can not live with a slower lens. All other lenses are compromises the beautiful rendering and resolution of the image. If you need speed because you occasionally shoot indoors or under street lamps, I would use the Zeiss F/2. Â If you are almost always shooting indoors. Shoot with the 35mm f/1.4 voigtlander. I personally found the aberrations difficult to manage with this lens. Â I enjoyed the 9 months I shot with the 2.5 skopar; until i replaced it with a 35mm summicron asph; which has become my standard lens.

iaeaix Posted March 5, 2015 Share #16 Â Posted March 5, 2015 Zeiss is pretty good, if you want Leica and fast enough, a Summicron 35mm v2 or v3 can be found at around $1000 or slightly below, at decent condition.
B-A-C Posted March 7, 2015 Share #17 Â Posted March 7, 2015 The Zeiss 35 f2 outperforms my Summicron ASPH IMO. It's larger and the images on Tri-X are incredible. I've heard it's just as good for digital.
farnz Posted March 7, 2015 Share #18  Posted March 7, 2015 A couple that haven't been mentioned but are certainly worthy of consideration:  Rollei 40/2.8 Sonnar HFT - it's LTM but you could file a LTM-M adaptor to show 35 framelines and you wouldn't be damaging the lens for potential resale value.  Voigtlander 35/1.2 Nokton - v1 in LTM and v2 in M mount. Quite large and heavy but if you're a photographer who's prepared to suffer for his or her art …  Pete.

iwc852 Posted March 7, 2015 Share #20 Â Posted March 7, 2015 go for a Zeiss -- and the C-Biogon 2,8/35 would be my recommendation (I have or had them all except the VC 1,4)...
