david strachan Posted February 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had to question my sanity, once again. Jaap and LCT, in another post, mentioned the lack of screw threads thereby excluding lenshood attachment on various filters. Here's an image of my filters, lenses, lens hoods, etc to help you all get the filter needed. The filters are entirely necessary for the M8...and I like a lens hood too While it is nice to have Leica accessories, the Rocolax are decent low profile filters, that do the job just fine. There are other filters too of course; B&W for example. Group A All take 39mm filters from Rocolax or Leica, some have no filter markings, all take screw in hoods on the filter. The Elmar _C 90mm f4 requires an S5.5 to E39 Filter adapter (as does the Summicron C 40mm f2). Also shown VC 21mm f4 LTM and Summicron LTM collapsible with Leica filter. Lens hoods are off EBay, and thread into the filters very well. Group B Canon 35mm f2 LTM with Rocolax 40mm filter and lens hood (no markings on filter). Group C Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM with Rocolax 48mm filter (no markings on filter) and OEM lens hood which fits neatly. Group D VC 35mm f1.4 with Rocolax 43 mm filter, spec marked on ring, and VC bayonet filter. Group E VC 15mm f4.5 no filters fit due to lack of threads in permanently fixed hood. A 39mm filter can be held inside the hood with extra edge tape, or some other hack fashion. I hope this will help sort out filter problems for those confused, or are new to the M8. cheers Dave S Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted February 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2015 Thank you David. To avoid misunderstandings, would you mind to confirm which Rocolax filters have no filter thread into them?
jaapv Posted February 11, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2015 I am maybe a bit confused. Why buy Leica lenses and put cheap Chinese windowpanes in front of them just to save a minimal amount of money. B&W and Heliopan are reputed companies that produce the best quality available, for not that much more compared to the price of your gear so why not use those? Btw, you missed the 40.5 mm filters for the Summarit 50, the series VII filter for the Summilux 24 and 21, the 49 mm for the APO Telyt, the 55 mm group, and undoubtedly a few more. david strachan Posted February 11, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 11, 2015 Thank you David. To avoid misunderstandings, would you mind to confirm which Rocolax filters have no filter thread into them? Hi lct I don't have any filters which have no screw mount in the front of the filter. All the filters I have received have had threads to take extra filters and/or lens hoods. cheers Dave S
Firefly Posted February 11, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 11, 2015 Plenty of s/h Leica ones on the market too. BTW if you buy a s/h M8 register the number on the owners site, you might get lucky and claim two free ones of your choice, cheers Rob

Particularly for those starting out with Leica, and a limited budget. I didn't try to cover all filters, but did mention other brands. cheers Dave S
jaapv Posted February 11, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 11, 2015 I seriously doubt that they are anything near the quality of the leading brands.

Admirable, in case... and makes me remind with a sort of nostalgy year 2007... with my frist digital camera (M8) and the voucher I sent for a pair of filter (E39 + E48, iirc)... I stiil keep the 2GB SD card with my first digital picture on...
Lenshacker Posted February 11, 2015 Share #10 Posted February 11, 2015 I still have the 80MByte 2.5" SCSI notebook drive that was used for the first digital image with a store-bought camera. Have to- it's not removable from the camera. 22 years old, still works. The 7-track reel-to-reel computer tapes with my first digital images are long gone. Now I feel really old. They were all Infrared images, so kind of off-topic here...

Well I got a pair during December 2014, it appears my M8 was never registered and Leica made a lot of filters , regards Rob
dblrifle Posted February 18, 2015 Share #12 Posted February 18, 2015 I have a VC 40mm f1.4 on one M8 and a 21mmf4 on the other M8. Both have BW filters on them. No problem to do.
