Blackpool, dancing the day away

One from this afternoon in Blackpool. This is the famous (well in this neck of the woods anyway) Tower Ballroom.

£13 to go in the building and up the tower, I must have more money than sense :-)

This is one of those shots where I knew what I was after before I entered the building. Far more pre-planed that the usual accidents that I stumble across. More or less full frame, just a little cropped off the left.

Steve,

very nice!

Beautiful atmosphere in black and white

Did you ask for permission before paying the £13 ?

Peter

Nice shot Steve. I haven't been up that tower since 1967 - it looks like it hasn't changed that much. I guess some of your dancers where probably there then too.

I like this a lot. I like to attempt this type of shot as often as I can. Very often it just involves standing in a place where there's some action and shooting. This is more planned that that and looks all the better for it.

Thanks everyone. The ballroom was pretty empty - but this was taken at around noon so I imagine it gets busier later in the afternoon. I bought a drink and sat by the edge of the dancefloor for 5 or 10 minutes. I have to admit I went wanting to try and get a shot with a couple dominating the foreground, so I'm happy with this. I'd have been happier if there had been more people on the dancefloor, but at £13 a person I wasn't going to drag people out off the street :-)

A very nice shot that goes one step beyond. If I could make one suggestion should you ever decide to cough up another 13 GBP.... allow for couple 3 in the rear to not be partially covered by the couple in the center. best rgds, Bob

Nice shot - I'm not sure I'd have been brave enough to crop the heads of the couple closest to me but the effect is great

Ps. Is that the little guy from the Canal St Martin in the background ??
