The M-A on the Leica official web page shows M-A black chrome with the "round" R lever and the classic style lens release button.

Seems like its an official change of the parts

Possibly but I think the website photos date back to the launch of the product back in 2014. I think Leica have built these cameras with whatever parts have been available at the time and if "round" levers haven't been available, they simply use whatever else they have in the appropriate finish.

This is my M-A purchased close before Christmas 2021, doesn’t have the screw for the lens release button and a letter  ‘R’ engraved for the rewind.

Regards, Ralf

Am I imagining it, or does anyone else see that circular impression where the MP’s battery cover would be?

There has been a past issue with some M-A cameras where the battery compartment blanking plate appears to sink back into the camera body and shows as a depression in the body covering.  It’s been illustrated on this forum, try a search.

it is noticeable when I use a finger to touch and search that battery cover, but it is not that easy to see it and feel it while using the m-a.

I am well aware.  I am just surprised that Leica would show that in their marketing material.  I guess sloppiness is not limited to their QA department.  My M-A doesn't show it - they couldn’t be bothered to check with the one they used?

Maybe they forgot to put a battery in the hole before they covered it up!

I am very interested in this precious material.

Unfortunately I do not have any reference but a photo of my M-A:

🙃

I had no idea what vulvanite is.

JMF, can you point to that precious material, please ?

From start/factory release, leatherettes are not the same for silver or black M-A

we can see here, in this thread

Bought new in June 2021. Made probably a couple of months before; I don't have the box at hand to check right now.
Round rewind lever, screw-head lens release button.

Of course, silver M-A come with round "R" lever.

We are talking about Black M-A which is equipped with square R lever, we don't know why 😇.

from above image

we can see also in these two images, the leatherette difference pattern of Black/Silver M-A.

Oh, it's just the black one that varies from batch to batch... I thought both of them were. Sorry about that.

I'm not sure what you're saying about the leatherette, though. They both look the same to me as far as the pattern is concerned. The black one does seem a bit more pronounced, but that could just be due to the harsher lighting.

Hello Everybody,

"Vulcanite" is not a type of "Leatherette". It is a variety of "Ebonite". Ebonite is a type of hard rubber which is sometimes used as the usually black part of a fountain pen which is the connector between the tube containing the bladder containing the ink & the point which writes on the paper. The point is sometimes made of gold & has 2 tiny iridium beads at the tip because, historically, many types of inks have been caustic.

Ebonite historically has also been used in a variety of other places where a tough, long lasting, durable material is needed.

Best Regards,

Michael

That's cool to learn, thank you.
