I have the impression that most people opt for a black M-A. If this is indeed the case, do you think that, in the future, when the M-A will be discontinued, silver bodies will be more sought after, inverting the trend that we see with vintage M bodies?

Just asking for the sake of curiosity. I can't afford either color at the moment. No investment intended😂

Rarity does not always equate with desirability.  A camera covered by the factory in a odd-coloured leatherette is sure to be one of a kind but that doesn’t mean I want to own or use it.

In the same vein, I would never put my preference for black cameras behind any future speculated value comparisons to the silver versions.  My heirs can fret about how I made the ‘wrong’ color choice.

My incoming M-A is black.  :)

Good choice.

🤥

strange,

I've never think of this silver/black war 🙃

without consulting my bills (I will not do anyway),

I can not tell which one came first silver or black ...

also strange, I can not tell which one I prefer, and if I had to sell in future which one first.

My M-A is silver as an homage to early M’s. My incoming MP is black as a contrast to the M-A and because the black paint is gorgeous.

This is exactly my setup, a silver M-A and a black paint MP.

My Silver M-A and black paint MP.

Just bought my M-A recently and noticed the carrying strap that comes with it is no longer the black plastic one. Since when did they make the switch?

I feel bad because of my MP,  it stays in my desk all day. Should I get this cupboard?

I think its worth it. My MP is a "shelf queen" meanwhile my M-A and M 262 will be my main rig. This dry cabinet protects my MP from dust and moisture/humidity (depending on where you live) and ideal for long term storage.

If you looking to purchase this, I picked mine up from BHPhoto's. Sometimes it goes on sale if you arent in a rush. Mine is the 30L one but there are different sizes for your needs.

Gosh, my open shelves seem to work fine. Am I missing something?

Nah, your normal. Im just very OCD about my MP. Also I rarely use it now since I got the M-A as well, but open shelf is how I currently store my M 262 and my other gear.

Just curious, having the M-A, do you guess your exposure or do you use a light meter even when you were using the MP?

Hello Cesc,

I would encourage you to learn the exposure "settings" to be free.

- as you have used Leica M for a while and having (I suppose) your prefered film(s)

- if you use MP or another camera with meter AND with same ISO film, you can remember which settings easily in each situation

- many years ago, trying to be free after some time and freeing new film users, I made some units of Exposure Mat mini (this .pdf to upload) I gave them these ...

now as I'm lazy, I link to the .pdf

- if you don't know what it is, you can read about exposure mat, here

- in this "journey", I understand better what film exposure IS and why in-camera meter is just "indication" of good exposure to be fine tuned to one's taste

My Black M-A got a new sibling, a silver one. The black one is for BW photos, the silver one will be enjoying color film :)
