Some early M-As mistakenly had the MP shutter speed dial that has the OFF setting!  I saw a few of those.  Makes you wonder how much attention the person assembling the cameras is actually giving to the job at hand.

Not lack of attention, just a good sense for corporate history. Leica III dials were used on the Leica II after the III was introduced. The person probably thought it was a good idea to continue the tradition of cost efficient dial sharing.

Quick question on the M-A, is the eye ring metal or plastic? I just can't tell.

The thread inside it is metal, but the cover is plastic so it won't scratch your glasses.  Same for M7, MP.

It is not due to behave differently in film, is it?

I rather like the notch and the truncated 4 too. I thought it was just me.

No, the MP Classic and LHSA MP3 special edition both have a notched shutter speed dial (the latter must be the only metered camera with a notch   ).

On my m4-p the 4 isn't truncated.  But on my m-a there is no notch as it has the mp selector and the screw is in the way of the eventual notch.  They had so much demand for the m-a that they use mp platform without electronic.

Interesting.

Can you swap (if you want to, of course) the button between M4/M4-P and your M-A's speed selector ?

I have my answer

no

Just unscrewed M4-2 and M-A speed buttons.

Only one short screw on M4-2 and long screw and not the same shape inside M-A's button.

Outside with slotted screws, I would think that they are same,

No in reality.

M-A at top, M4-2 bottom

M-A 's multiple holes may be to accept MP's button screwing in another place, here second hole from bottom is good candidate.

With M-A's own speed button, it's the second from top hole.

The buttons are different on the verso side . Turn the buttons over ! The M-A version is plain , the older more open .

Not quite , some filing/modification on the verso part is necessary to fit a MP button on a M-A .

My idea is that it will fit but you won't have the speed indicated by the engraving.  The disk connecting under the cover bust be for the mp also and must be rotate or modified in accordance.

I don't know, but the second hole on the 'base' of the selector (button unscrewed from M-A) pic above

can be there for the MP type button, if this can be screwed in the 'base'.

The screw would fit at the middle of 4-8 ?

Aren't all the current Leica M Black lenses, Black Paint?

I don't think so.

The norm is anodized aluminium in black or silver (less the Summilux-M 1.4/50 asph. which is brass in silver).

Black paint are for mostly 'Limited Edition' or 'Special Edition' occasions.

Black paint lenses are made of brass then painted in black, so heavier than normal/current anodized lenses.

Yorda@'s Summilux-M 50 comparing to his black anodized M body is Black Paint lens (a bit shiny)
