sblitz Posted May 20, 2014 Share #21 Posted May 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) just shot 1600 iso indoors, set wb to 3200k, opened in Capture One, and very happy with the results. think is, do you want the indoor shot to look like it is as dark as it is or like a dark theater lit up like its noon? nameBrandon Posted May 20, 2014 Author Share #22 Posted May 20, 2014 just shot 1600 iso indoors, set wb to 3200k, opened in Capture One, and very happy with the results. think is, do you want the indoor shot to look like it is as dark as it is or like a dark theater lit up like its noon? That's good to hear, I'm using Capture One as well. I lost the genetic lottery when it came to steady hands, so I'm primarily looking to see how bad it is to under-expose by a stop or two at ISO 800-1600. I'll do this sometimes in order to keep a higher shutter speed to prevent camera shake on my end. JohnRicard sent me a number of files that were good examples. Many I've seen were at ISO 2000 which I'm very close to deeming unusable when underexposed by more than 1/2 stop. Properly exposed images at ISO 1600 look more than usable. However it appears that things break down rather quickly when you underexpose at 1600+ and need to bump it up a stop or two. So long story short, any ISO 800-1600 underexposed would be very helpful. Edit - just looked at your site btw, some fantastic images there!
Gerard Posted May 20, 2014 Share #23 Posted May 20, 2014 Or... You could use a flash and quit worrying about skyrocket iso performance.
nameBrandon Posted May 20, 2014 Author Share #24 Posted May 20, 2014 Or... You could use a flash and quit worrying about skyrocket iso performance. And perhaps I could stand very still until the sun comes out again to continue taking photographs. Be that as it may, there are a number of ways to address the issue of poorly lit-scenes, in this particular thread, I chose to ask about high ISO performance. colonel Posted May 21, 2014 Share #25 Posted May 21, 2014 No time to search for interesting pics, but here are some examples at ISO 2500: Best rgds Note that the take at 640 and push in Lightroom works well. Search here for this technique and why it works.

sblitz Posted May 21, 2014 Share #28 Posted May 21, 2014 difference at 1600 doesn't look so great to make M9 unusable.
nameBrandon Posted May 21, 2014 Author Share #29 Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks all, I was able to get into a dealer today to shoot with an M9 and bring my own memory card. I think I've got all the DNG's I need, and it definitely looks like it should work for my needs.

I have no doubt the M240 is better, but so far my M9 has been good enough. And when I really need better high ISO performance I grab my Monochrom. Actually I've been grabbing it a lot lately even when I don't need high ISOs
