Unfortunately the buyer is going to be disappointed. A bit of research would have shown him that the same camera (or at least the same text and photos) was already offered for sale back in November in the US....

Leica M Type 240 en Renton, Washington | Tienda del Web Espa

GOTCHA!

I'm just very sorry for the poor sod who does think they've got a bargain, and is about to have a lot of hassle....

Well I took a moment to call eBay and to report it.

They seemed to take it all very seriously.

I hope that it helps someone - and I hope that I haven't interfered with some odd but genuine transaction.

I googled eBay and found - +448445458179

You have to press hash # to get past the pin code question but then go through the ID questions. Choose the option for wrongful activity - can't remember what it actually said but it was obviously that which they meant.

Got patched through to the Philippines and spoke with a very pleasant lady who took it all down including the address of the Spanish website. The whole thing took about 8 minutes.

Only last week I picket up fraudulent offer for Apo Telyt Modular lens on eBay UK, seller was "London" based and dealing mostly in aerobic leotards, with low 100% rating, Item was going with very low start price & no reserve, to good to be true. I also provided link on Leica R forum with warning.

Real red flag was identical item being offered via US eBay for realistic buy now price, from a seller who was dealing in lots of high grade photographic equipment, contacted genuine seller & warned him of the fraud in progress misusing his offering.

Afterwards genuine seller informed me that he was the highest bidder on the UK bid, it is my understanding once you get involved into bid you can more easily deal with eBay than as a bystander - now I have taken note of that phone number. Nice surprise, no doubt, for our enerprising seller :D

Same thing happened to me some years ago.

Sold my M6 'Bruckner' to a genuine buyer in UK on eBay.

2 weeks later the camera turned up again on eBay, with the same photos as I had used in my listing. The f*ckwit fraudster behind the new listing obviously didn't twig that only 200 of these cameras were ever made, and they didn't often come up on eBay, thus raising the index of suspicion in his direction.

Contacted the genuine buyer who bought it, who was an established Leica collector, and he said he was absolutely not selling it on eBay after 2 weeks of ownership!

It was a scam, and it was pulled from eBay immediately, once I called them.

There are some total bar-stewards around.........

This reminds me of the Noctilux that kept appearing for sale on ebay last year. A forum member bought it and was scammed. the actual owner was also a forum member I believe. I really appreciate when members give everyone a heads up when they see something that is not right.
