Rva Posted January 17, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) perhaps a silly question, but after selling my black M9 to refund a new M240, a silver one has appeared in the store. I have got 35 lux and 50 lux in black. I’ve been waiting for a months and I am getting really nervous being without Leica body.
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Hi Rva, Take a look here take a silver M240 or wait for black one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
plainman Posted January 17, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2014 hi. personally i would wait for the black one, since that is the one you want. it is expensive enough that you should get the color of your particular preference. also, the m240s are becoming much more available now. have you tried different resources other than your dealer that you normally use? i don't think they are that hard to get anymore. i could be wrong, of course. but have faith. i think you will nail a black one soon--if that is what you want. Leonil Posted January 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2014 Thats really lucky. Just like me I just found an unclaimed silver one in a store. It is near impossible to gwt silver in Australia. The waiting list is at least a year. In some parts of the EU silver are on shelves. Litterally wont take long to get a black. The stats are, for every silver made, 4 black leicas are made. Wont take long for a black to show up
fchan1211 Posted January 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 17, 2014 Wait for the black if that is what you want. Silver / black is more or less a personal preferences. However, I don't like the way how some locations are more easy to get a particular color while the other locations have to wait for months. It is a matter of marketing forecast, I guess. No matter which one you pick, enjoy your new M240.
Bill W Posted January 17, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2014 Here in the USA, none of the major suppliers have either the balck or silver. I got the urge after seling some stuff to get another M and in silver but none are currently available.
Jeff S Posted January 17, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Try smaller dealers (from Leica site). It may take many calls, but perseverance will usually pay off. I found one in 2 days last year, when seemingly every major dealer had a waiting list. Rva Posted January 17, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted January 17, 2014 I'm from the Czech Republic, next to Germany. Regarding delivery time, for instance I ordered the Cron 75 one year ago to match my 35 Lux, after six months waiting, I bought the 50 Lux instead of that, because I’d been waiting so long. That time, I thought that both lenses 35 and 50 are too close, but they are completely different lenses. The Cron 75 came this month. However, I have very good relationship with a local store here, so I hope that black body will come in a short time.

kyc Posted January 17, 2014 Share #11 Posted January 17, 2014 As I waited for my silver M, I made up my mind NOT to take the black version if one happened to come in first and was offered to me. It also may be that I fell in love with the first Leica I laid eyes on (silver of course) back in the early seventies, and this is my first Leica. So, I'd advise you to wait as well. That said, I will tell you that the silver will be rarer (and possibly worth more for that reason) if you ever decide to sell it. The one thing that bothers me, though, is that finger prints on the silver look like a dark smudge and really worried me the first time I saw it. But, it wipes off cleanly with a soft cloth. And, the silver one really looks cool with my silver 35 Cron. I just wish I had the silver 50 Lux. Greg
earleygallery Posted January 17, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 17, 2014 There's another thread on here from someone who is really annoyed that their dealer can't get hold of a chrome M for them, but has black. PM them and arrange a swap, and everyone is happy!

marknorton Posted January 17, 2014 Share #14 Posted January 17, 2014 I've had an M240 for nearly a year now and my dealer offered me black or chrome. Of course I went for chrome. It's great and looks like new. However much you baby your black camera, after a year of proper use, it will look tired.

The only advantage is that they don't really look like Leicas, much more primitive and the edges go quickly.. Chrome is the classic look and its durable.. Leonil Posted January 18, 2014 Share #18 Posted January 18, 2014 Yup, that's a big problem with the blacks. The only advantage is that they don't really look like Leicas, much more primitive and the edges go quickly.. Chrome is the classic look and its durable.. Shhh, Don't tell that to the street Photographers who paint over the red dot because people wont see them holding a camera. In seriousness, I love the Chrome/silver look - its definitely a classic look and wears better in my opinion. As a first time Leica owner, I don't plan on upgrading the body until the standard Megapixel count is 50 for a Full frame. (ASIDE: Right now its 24 - I see 30+ in the next Leica I think, and then 35+ in the next, and 40+ and so on. Since the jumps are relatively small ie: 10 > 18 > 24. The logical jump is imo at least 32. I don't see Leica joining the ranks of the Sony sensor of 36. After 32, I see a jump to 40. That is assuming pixel and sensor technology is scaled that way and noise and sensitivity to light advances.) BACK ON TOPIC: So if Im holing onto my M for the next, say.... 10 years, I don't want my Leica to look like its survived the depression - I want it to look good enough to put under glass. It's great and looks like new. However much you baby your black camera, after a year of proper use, it will look tired. But bright chrome will be full of scuffs. Less obvious under certain light, true, but I will take a honest brassed edge any time. I find the black coating on the M very durable by the way, compared to the M9.I have used mine for nearly a year now and the wear on the paint is minimal. My M9 was moderately brassed at the same point of its life.
wlaidlaw Posted January 18, 2014 Share #20 Posted January 18, 2014 Because my father always used chrome Leicas and my 21st present was a chrome M4 body, I have always stuck with chrome since, other than the M9, where I got the not very nice, boring grey one. Every time I order a new Leica, I have this fight with myself, black or chrome? In the end I always go for chrome, not least as my wife does not notice I have bought myself yet another new Leica Our only black Leicas therefore are my old and very battered model II, which is only barely a user and my wife’s V-Lux 20.
