Is it just me that is mildly irritated by the way that the forum works technically? When you get an email advising you of a new post on a thread you are interested in, would it not be much more sensible to take you to the last post on the thread, rather than the first. What do folks think? Should be technically possible, as other forums I have been on, work that way.

i love it the way it is technically-intellectually its seems to have gone downhill big time. Theres no good debate anymore, just relentless M8 blather. love the m8 but I haven't really learned one thing I couldn't learn on the Leica website, the manual, or Sean Reid's website here. am i bitter? no-just miss talking about photography....B

Bradley seems to taking about the content of the forum rather than the form of it and I tend to agree. There's a _lot_ of very repetative discussion regarding the M8. I don't have a problem with that, but I think it would have been better to create a separate M8 sub-forum again until things calmed down.

The trouble with that is that most of the traffic and discussion will simply gravitate towards that sub-forum. The problem seems to be that few people want to discuss anything that doesn't involve the M8.

Maybe there should be separate sub-forums (fora?) for "M8 back-focus issues", "WATE vs. CV 15", "Lens Coding", etc..;)

Since the appearance of the M8 it's M8 all the way.

It looks as if there has been a braindrain going on since this camera got launched.

Discussions about image content, ethics, joys of photography and so forth seem to have vanished.

Welcome to the gearheaded society.

Perhaps my verdict is more B&W than my photography permits me ( colour slides ) but I do miss the deeper discussion and the creativity of mind that was here before.

The customer and film forum hardly attract posters anymore neither does the bar.

Lightstalkers forum at this moment has more to offer in this field, such a pity rangefinders a niche there.

How to improve this forum, no clue.

Kind regards,

Fr.

I don't disagree with you. A lot of M8 discussion is very technical and, frankly, of minor significance within the bigger picture (excuse the pun) of good photography. The digital forum has also become the de facto main discussion area. Anything posted in the customer forum and film forum goes largely unnoticed nowadays.

I wonder if in part that's because discussion of anything else gets swamped by the shear volume of M8 threads so people see no reason to?

yes, that's a problem, because you can't "hold" any other question on the visible side...it is lost in a few minutes in the nirvana of pages...:D :D :D

Couldn't agree more. My eyes have begun to glaze over on some of the threads <grin>

Hmmm if people aren't posting in the Customer or Film forums enough, then its down to everyone that uses the site to remedy it, by posting interesting threads!

Agree that we're rather swamped by M8 stuff, but in a way we should be glad its created so much interest, although I do wish people would use the search facility or add to existing threads rather than starting a new one 'another frozen M8' or 'my battery is dead too' or 'where do I get my filters?' Grrrr

A separate 'M8 users' section would be good though and would solve the problem of other digital questions being lost in the mire.

Taking down the M8 forum after it was released was mistake. I second re-instating it.

How about a "Frequently Ignored Answers" section?

Then all the questioners could be directed there each time.

Now that's a cracking idea.

To be honest the hysteria over the M8 not only makes my eyes glaze over but I also suffer brain freeze.

I only go to the Bar, Film and Customer forums now. Trying to find the threads I am interested in - mainly the D2 - is hopeless especially when people do not use the tag system.

Steve,

I agree. It tended to put me off viewing the site which I used to do daily. A separate M8 section would leave the general section to wider issues. (No offence intended to M8-ers).

I must admit that I have really been put off by all the M8 blabber on the forum and as a result I have lost much interest in participating. It is really annoying, as stated before, to see the same topic posted once again ad nauseum, especially in technobabble. Don't get me wrong, I believe that mastery of our tools, especially for those of us who do this for a living is essential, but for God's sake a bit of research here and elsewhere would alleviate much of the repetitive stuff. Much good work has been done by many members, Guy Mancuso (as usual) being at the forefront of problem solving with respect to the M8 - still cannot believe he sold his DMRs for the M8 though...;)

Please, please split off the M8 threads to a separate forum!! Those of us who don't own one and those who would want to discuss things other than its/their problems and the solutions thereto would really welcome the ability to find the relevant threads readily instead of having to wade back through pages of M8 blather.

The search facility takes time and doesn't always produce the result desired.
