jaques Posted November 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought maybe LTM mount but then it looks like it wouldn't focus right as the brass ring is too flush with the body... what's with this ebay item- seller doesn't seem to be aware of its oddness: Leica M3 Rangefinder Film Camera W Leica Meter MC 403163110911 | eBay
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hi jaques, Take a look here M3 converted for LTM mount? Or what?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted November 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2013 Very odd! My guess is that it's some kind of home made adaptor - it appears to be fixed onto the M mount like an LTM adaptor - I can see a 'join' which looks like the original mount underneath. luigi bertolotti Posted November 15, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2013 Yes, me too think is a "nearly-home" made LTM adapter.... I wonder which frame it gets in the VF... ... and also if it has the RIGHT thickness... The original IIIg with Bayonet Mount is much better... TomB_tx Posted November 15, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2013 Notice the chrome ring around the brass center has a red index mark as if it were the rear M-mount of an early M lens adapted with the brass insert. Of course, this frankendapter has no cutouts on the outer edge to use a standard M rear cap to remove it from the body if stuck in place. One of my M3s has a VERY tight mount, and such an adapter in it would be nearly impossible to remove. So removing this one might be a challenge, explaining why it wasn't removed for the pictures. 250swb Posted November 16, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2013 Yes it is a 'stuck' LTM adapter. The red dot is where the adapter is lined up to mount it on the M3. You can see a shadow at the very edge of the mount showing it is two parts, the standard bayonet mount and the adapter on top, but being the same diameter as the original mount it is difficult to spot. The brass is not an insert, it is where years of LTM lenses have worn away the chrome finish. Steve
TomB_tx Posted November 16, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Probably right about the brass area being where the chrome has worn off - but I've never seen an original Leitz adapter that didn't have the 3 cutouts around the edge so you could remove it with the tabs on the Leica-M rear cap. I guess it could be an aftermarket adapter.

Based on my mechanical experience it is quite impossible to worn out the chrome plated like we can see on the pictures, with a threaded lens base when the thread is quite closed the ripping is very very short. I would say less than on a bayonet mount. I think this is a.glued in insert to screw, MAY BE, an another kind of lens than an Leica one ?...Or just a bushing on a damaged thread
