wlaidlaw Posted September 2, 2013 Author Share #81 Posted September 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maurizio - whatever happens with the FW I think that the start up time issue is solved every time by formatting your SD card with SD Formatter 4. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ It really makes a huge difference in my experience. Best C: Chris, Do you reformat every time with SD Formatter or just for the initial format of a card new to the M240? I have been using SD Formatter for a new card but then reformatting in the camera, as that is just clearing the FAT. That is I think what was happening with my duff SanDisk cards, even though I used SD Formatter initially, the camera was not properly clearing the FAT or writing the FAT properly. My replacement M has not done this but I am now using only 16GB Extreme Pro cards. Wilson
Advertisement Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here New Firmware 2.0.0.11 beta or general release {merged}. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted September 2, 2013 Share #82 Posted September 2, 2013 One formatting with SDFormatter suffices normally. I would redo it in case of slowdown only. I have no experience with larger than 32 GB cards though.
wlaidlaw Posted September 2, 2013 Author Share #83 Posted September 2, 2013 I also found my version of SD Formatter was out of date. It was version 1 not 4! Wilson
Rick Posted September 2, 2013 Share #84 Posted September 2, 2013 Crippled auto- ISO There is no right or wrong in this case and nobody should have the arrogance to claim his preferred system as the only correct one. Arrogance, or intelligence?
lct Posted September 2, 2013 Share #85 Posted September 2, 2013 Don't recall who said that arrogance is knowledge minus wisdom but w/o superior knowledge it's no more than stupidity IMHO. Err... do you think i'm arrogant?
algrove Posted September 2, 2013 Share #86 Posted September 2, 2013 I recognise two of them but who's the one on the right? :D Wilson I won't answer that with a 10 foot pole.

suey11 Posted September 13, 2013 Share #90 Posted September 13, 2013 Any idea if the eventual firmware update does away with pressing the front button to use exposure compensation so you just use the thumb wheel on its own.
lct Posted September 13, 2013 Share #91 Posted September 13, 2013 Would be great but how would you choose this function of the thumb wheel?
Ashkanani Posted September 13, 2013 Share #92 Posted September 13, 2013 Same ISO setting for video. It's limited to 1600.
MarkP Posted September 13, 2013 Share #93 Posted September 13, 2013 Any idea if the eventual firmware update does away with pressing the front button to use exposure compensation so you just use the thumb wheel on its own. I would not want that. Too easy to accidentally rotate the wheel. I've only had the camera for 36 hours. Fantastic. Worth the upgrade just for that quiet and responsive shutter - what a joy. Ecstatic with IQ & colour rendition. I'm really surprised how much I like the red frame-lines (I must be nuts). However I would really like for 1. being able to change that awful font back to that of the M9 (and it's ISO layout screen) 2. Speeding up startup time, not that mine is as bad as some have claimed 3. manual entering of M and R lenses for when the camera won't work when it doesn't recognise the lens is mounted - including my uncoded 1.0/50 Noctilux (OK now with temporary pen coding. A warning is fine but who is the bloody idiot responsible for that - although I understand that one would not want the sensor exposed unnecessarily with no lens fitted 4. being able to reassign the current video and front focus assist buttons to function of my choice. I'd prefer focus assist or even light-meter profile instead of video next to the shutter release. 5. fixing the slow EVF blackout time after exposure 6. one or two more user profiles, or being able to reprogramme that annoying default profile as surely I know better than Leica what I want as a default setting. dwbell Posted October 8, 2013 Share #96 Posted October 8, 2013 Hope that's only a partial list? A "2" would normally suggest to me something greater that "what we funked up on 1 is now fixed"!?

lct Posted October 8, 2013 Share #98 Posted October 8, 2013 ...decreased compression ratio to improve block noise... Welcome to the forum. Your list sounds plausible indeed. What do you mean by block noise if i may ask?
Rick Posted October 8, 2013 Share #99 Posted October 8, 2013 Welcome to the forum. Your list sounds plausible indeed. What do you mean by block noise if i may ask? Blocking is a type of compression artifact caused by lossy compression and looks like a checkerboard pattern or extreme pixillation in areas with complex patterns. If, you have spent time with the video from the M, I'm sure you have seen it especially where there is movement. The list, by the way, sounds very plausible. I believe Leica is very intent on mainly solving the color issues and getting that out as soon as possible then, working on the "glitch" and "wish list" after that. lct Posted October 8, 2013 Share #100 Posted October 8, 2013 Blocking is a type of compression artifact caused by lossy compression and looks like a checkerboard pattern or extreme pixillation in areas with complex patterns... Thanks Rick do you mean that this has nothing to do with the lossless compression of the DNG files?
