Thanks Rick do you mean that this has nothing to do with the lossless compression of the DNG files?

This is a fix to make the video image better - nothing to do with still images. It has to do with the compression scheme Leica has implemented in compressing and encoding their video.

Be assured, the lossless DNG files will still be just as lossless as they were before.

What does stabilize LV mode mean? Does it have anything to do with the black out time of using LV?

No ... there have been issues with LV/EVF use where it is blacking out/shutting off completely after photos .... particularly with high ambient temperatures.

The usual momentary LV black-out time when taking photos is unlikely to change ....

Forgive my English.

Thanks RickLeica-san,

Block noise is coming from rather higher compression rate. It doesn't affect to still image.

Thanks thighslapper-san,

"stabilize LV" means "to increase stability of firmware around LV mode".

For "fixed bug of exposure failure when power on and auto power off"

I have to correct this. Above sentence means,

"fixed bug of exposure failure sometimes happens when power on"

and

"increase stability of firmware and bugfixed around auto power off"

Given the rumor about what's in the firmware upgrade (or rather the lack of a fix for the thoroughly busted AUTO-ISO feature), it sounds like I'm going to hit the roof. Who should I write to at Leica…*just getting ready

Leica has said that they will address the Auto ISO comments made on this forum. I know I am also looking forward to that. But, I would strongly suspect that this firmware update is mainly to improve WB and color and get that out the door for customers. For me, better image quality (color) is the most important and pressing firmware update.

If this is what I think it is, it would require that they found a way to display other areas of the image than just the dead center...

I don't think this is what that means. Leica has stated somewhere that the processor/electronics isn't capable of accommodating moving the magnified focus area.

Leica ownership and impatience are incompatible.

The gnomes of Solms work exceedingly thoroughly and steadily.

Making rash decisions like changing back to the 'Manual' Auto-ISO feature is not in their nature ....

Think Leica ..... think 'Entmoot' in Lord of the Rings.....

They always said the first major firmware upgrade would be bug fixes ..... no mention of new features....... so.....

..... I think you will be waiting a while yet..... :p

Please tell me that it's a joke. PLEASE!!!

...

- Improved picture quality related to optical lens

improved color casting in the corner area of 6bit embedded lens

...

More important than adjusting WB for OOC pictures IMHO. Red edges will disappear from wide pics hopefully but i still doubt that the new microlenses allow for significant improvements from this standpoint.

If that were true the bugs wouldn't be there in the first place. :D

New FW is released and available for download. Significant improvements in AWB and OOC color rendition (unless you were using a custom color profile with a previous SW), overall stability and LV stability. No downside to upgrading. Still some issues like stability at higher temps to be resolved but I highly encourage M users to upgrade to this newer SW and give it a try.

So do I, highly encourage OTHER M users to upgrade.

Me? I've been here long enough to know that it's probably better to wait a few months until the newly introduced bugs are found and then decide on the upgrade path.

Is this current launch firmware available as a download?

FW2.0.0.11 is actually the third firmware version for the M240. The original FW1.1.0.0 was only out about a week before the upgraded version FW1.1.0.2 was released. I'm not sure if the previous versions are available but I believe this is a worthy upgrade and there really is no reason to wait.

Oh ok - I'll jump right in then if you say it's ok! :D

No, thanks, I have not witnessed one, NOT ONE firmware update from Leica which didn't introduce other bugs and problems. I support Leica with my wallet, I wish them well, I love their gear, but I'll pass on being an early adopter thanks. I've only just finished Beta testing the launch firmware for them - and I didn't even know I was!

(edit - I should add that I use custom colour profiles, a colour checker passport and incident meter so I'm as happy as can be with the colour I get from my M240)
