atournas Posted August 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M9 has developed a bizarre bug. After prolonged use of the 21-mm viewfinder attached to the camera, the word "PLAY" above the top left rear button has started fading away. My... nose tells me that's because I view with my right eye. Anything to resolve the problem before the word is completely dissolved? Paul
Advertisement Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Hi atournas, Take a look here Strange bug on the M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 27, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2013 bugs are generally software errors. My lettering is wearing off too. Couldn't care less, personally. Gordon
AceVentura1986 Posted August 27, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 27, 2013 Buy small bottle of white enamel paint, very thin brush and a small rubber squeegee. Repaint the letters and then use the squeegee to clean off the excess paint.
jaapv Posted August 27, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2013 Have you tried another SD card?
adan Posted August 27, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2013 Funny - I use a 21 finder all the time, right eye, and my nose generally just goes straight into the built-in viewfinder eyepiece. Smudge city - but no fading "PLAY" label.
250swb Posted August 28, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2013 Something related directly to bugs that can take printed lettering off is deet based insect repellent, and some suntan products. They are nearly as good as paint stripper. One day I went out with five year old stickers looking good as new on my Manfrotto tripod, I got back and they had vanished into a coloured mess on my hands. So be careful of what you put on your nose, and hands, and everywhere else I guess. Steve

MarkP Posted August 30, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 30, 2013 try cleaning it with a cotton bud and some alcohol.....the lettering that is...but you could also do the nose whilst you're at it....
Orient XI Posted August 31, 2013 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2013 That ain't all. DEET is really bad on plastics. Indeed not, it's bad on wives too. My old boss, a world expert on mosquitoes, recommended DEET for a trip to the Finnish arctic — the only thing it repelled was the wife.

wda Posted September 1, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 1, 2013 Buy small bottle of white enamel paint, very thin brush and a small rubber squeegee. Repaint the letters and then use the squeegee to clean off the excess paint. Have you personally tried this method? I fear paint would reach unintended parts proving difficult to remove. louster Posted September 2, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 2, 2013 You could always cover Play and any other distracting buttons with black tape for a cool stealth look.
Paul J Posted September 2, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 2, 2013 I cover my M9 in surface insect repellant before a shoot to reduce the risks of bugs. If a wasp gets in that finder you're in trouble if you don't realise!
tobey bilek Posted September 3, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 3, 2013 Micro Tools.com White lacquer stick. Remove all the old with wood tooth pick . Rub stick over engraving, then buff off excess. Wait 24 hours and buff remaining haze. After that, use other eye.
