Bill W Posted August 16, 2013 Share #61 Posted August 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) jaap, Here's hoping both of you a speedy recovery. After 20 years and finally a total replacement, my left knee looks and works a lot better than your M. Hope you never need that though.
Advertisement Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi Bill W, Take a look here Bit depressed.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
erl Posted August 16, 2013 Share #62 Posted August 16, 2013 Jaap, you have my sympathy. May QC offer you a speedy turnaround. Very recently I did a similar thing with my M7. Down the beach I moved rapidly to assist someones young child I considered at risk on a rocky outcrop. I slipped on a slimy rock, cracked my skull on a rock and banged the M7 on the corner of the base plate, whilst still in my hand. The RF was then way off. RF now corrected to perfect but I still have a slight headache. I was lucky. Camera Clinic turned the M7 round in a few days.
sblitz Posted August 16, 2013 Share #63 Posted August 16, 2013 Jaap. Ouch! Sorry to hear about the fall. Hope you are on the mend and the camera as well. Was thinking about a different post you made that made me and my wife laugh about stuffing things in your pocket. Perhaps the M should've been there ! brusby Posted August 16, 2013 Share #64 Posted August 16, 2013 Well, if you'd ever considered having Leica perform some customization or personalization to the camera this might be an opportunity to salvage something good from this most unfortunate accident. Again, best of luck with the healing!
Dannybuoy Posted August 16, 2013 Share #65 Posted August 16, 2013 The stuff of nightmares for sure. Lets hope all involved get fixed up quickly. There are many half-cases on the market. Maybe there's a call for full-cases!
tpkoester Posted August 16, 2013 Share #66 Posted August 16, 2013 The camera will be fine and my knee... well.. Ein Knie geht einsam durch die Welt. Es ist ein Knie, sonst nichts! Es ist kein Baum! Es ist kein Zelt! Es ist ein Knie, sonst nichts. :D Still its better to take care of it. Leica is taking care of your camera. You should take care of your knee. All the best and really sorry to hear about your trouble Thomas PS: Where did you find Morgenstern's 'Das Knie'?

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted August 16, 2013 Share #72 Posted August 16, 2013 Hope your knee and ankles recover. Much easier to fix an M than body parts.Probably quicker as well to fix the body parts:)
lct Posted August 16, 2013 Share #73 Posted August 16, 2013 My sympathy Jaap. Hope you're OK now. Too bad for the M240 but it will come back with a new firmware eventually, who knows...
jaapv Posted August 17, 2013 Author Share #74 Posted August 17, 2013 Just out of curiosity Jaap, what's the cost of the repair if you don't mind me asking? Erik 1425 Euro
algrove Posted August 17, 2013 Share #75 Posted August 17, 2013 So sorry to read of ths mishap. The photo looks dreadful and so does the repair bill. Trust all damages will get fixed you included. My insurance covers mysterious disappearance and anything less, but down time is not considered unless an auto. When will insurance companies start treating us like adults and compensate us for our image making downtime too?
enboe Posted August 17, 2013 Share #76 Posted August 17, 2013 Good thing these cameras are durable, at least in my hands: 1) Took my M7 on vacation, had a kid run into me, left a scratch on the baseplate. Didn't know kids heads could scratch black chrome. Lesson: Use a never-ready case when in jostling crowds or around rowdy children. 2) Took an early M3 (#708880) with a Canon 50/1.2 out shooting sans strap. Pulled it from the bag, dropped it on concrete. Smashed the lens filter, chipped the front element, but camera was unhurt. Gave the lens away. Lesson: Always use a strap. 3) Took my M8 out shooting. Hung it by the strap from a restroom stall coat hook. Grabbed it with my coat and had it fall to a tile floor. Around $1200 U.S. for a new top plate and a new rangefinder assembly. Lesson: Don't hang up your camera. The good news for me was that I was not hurt in any of these incidents. Sorry for your experience. Let us know how well and how quickly customer service provides the repair. Eric
marknorton Posted August 17, 2013 Share #77 Posted August 17, 2013 1425 Euro I think that's good value, assuming new back panel, new base, new top cover with all the parts swapped over plus a full alignment, clean and check with tax and shipping on top. jaapv Posted August 17, 2013 Author Share #78 Posted August 17, 2013 Agree. And of course the hotshoe cover too...
