Mmark Posted July 31, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted July 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, Â My current lenses are: WATE, Lux 24, Lux 35 FLE, Nocti 0.95, Lux 75 and 90/2.8. I'm really satisfied with all of them, nothing to complain. I'm done. Â The only problem is the size of any of above (especially Nocti and 75), so I started to build another set of lenses. Something to carry whenever I'm out just for walk, business trip etc. Small, inconspicuous ones. Already bought Voigtlander 15, MS Optical 35/3.5 triplet (fantastic lens BTW, like the output and physical size of it although it's bit slow) and Voigtlander 35/1.5 Nokton (worst member of my collection). Now looking for SMALL in size: 1. Something in range between 21 and 28; Voigtlander pancake? new MS Optical 25 or 21 triplets? anything else? 2. 50 mm. Preferably fast lens (1.4 or 2.0); MS Optical Sonnar? Old Summilux (rather big in size)? Zeiss 50/1.5? anything else? Â What's your suggestion? I could even consider vintage lenses. Posted July 31, 2013 Share #3  Posted July 31, 2013 28/2.8 asph from leica & 50 summarit  I'd have chosen the 35 summarit as the 35 of choice (or the 35 c-biogon) as the perar is simply too rare to consider for me but since you already got that...  21 super elmar could fit too.  I'd double the 2-3 focal lengths you use the most.  if you're into 21/35/75 -> 21 SE, 35 Summarit, 75 Summarit.  28/50/90-> 28 Elmarit asph, 50 Summarit, 90 tele elmarit (thin 2nd version)  you clearly see I'm fond of the summarits. very small and light lenses without the need to use a hood since all of them are not prone to flare at all. and your image quality is still superb Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are lots of threads on travelling with one or two lenses, all worth consideration. I wonder how often you use the extreme speed capabilities of your current set of lenses? I'm 50mm man, so this is main question. Sumarit or Elmar are great lenses (and small enough) but bit slow. You know; loosing 3 stops (comparing to Nocti) is to much, I do not need anything longer than 50 for second set - the concept is to go out with small 50 on the camera and have another 24 (or 21/28) in pocket. But 50 must be somehow universal, usable at night. For really small setup I can put my M9P with Perar 35 in jacket internal pocket. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

farnz Posted July 31, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted July 31, 2013 The 35/1.4 Summilux pre-asph is a tiny lens for its speed and the 28/3.5 Kobalux (or Avenon - same lens, different name) although not fast is tiny and pretty respectable optically. I've spent a lot of time looking at the pictures from sonnar design (both Zeiss and MS Optical) and decided to skip these. As no other small enough choices come to my mind I realized that Lux 50 could simply nice member of both lens families. Elmar because it's smaller than Summarit (that was second choice) and comparable in terms of picture quality, especially stepped down and it's only 2cm long! Good for you!  My "travel light kit" would be the 21SEM, 35 FLE (if speed needed), APO 50/2.0, & the 90/4.0 Macro. The ultimate kit for me would be 3-4 lenses with all lenses taking 39mm filters. The 50 and 90 above make that come true. The 35/2.0 is a 39. What is the widest lens that takes 39mm filters? Must be the current 28/2.8. Maybe reason to get one. MarkP Posted August 9, 2013 Share #19  Posted August 9, 2013 I have way too many Leica lenses but I put together 'another set' of good quality and reasonably compact lenses that I don't have to worry about as much as the Leicas. Although all my equipment is insured, I don't have to worry about as much about these if I'm going somewhere where risk of theft or damage is higher (including when my teenage son borrows the M9 to do some photography). I specifically decided against this set comprising any Leica lenses because even if any ere cheaper I knew I'd still worry about them in some situations.  2.8/25 ZM Biogon (with the old 24mm OVF from my D-Lux4) 1.5/50 ZM C-Sonnar 4.0/85 ZM Tele-Tessar  I sold the CV 2.5/75 and 3.4/90 which weren't getting much use anyhow and replaced them with the 85mm lens which sits nicely between these and has excellent IQ, and I sold a 4.5/21 ZM C-Sonnar (a lovely compact lensbut the red edge was a pain). These three lenses combined cost me less than a the purchase price of many new Leica lenses.  I may add a 35 at some stage and leave it at that, but this compact 3 lens kit is actually very versatile and quite light.
