Wild flowers, ordinary vegetation which would merit no more than a cursory look, momentarily turned into an arresting sight by the angled rays of light, juxtaposed against the shaded area behind... irresistible.

A gift for me ...   I share here.      [Tri-X]

I also take the opportunity to salute all you fantastic film photographers who frequent this thread and post your fabulous photographs here.

The Fuji is soon being augmented by a much handier Mamiya 7 along with the 43 and 80mm. Not sure I really want a built-in light meter, but it's a very cool camera I've long admired. Anyone else here using one?

I had a Mamyia 7ii for a while.  I thought I would really like it, having tried it on the Mamyia stand at a Focus exhibition, intending to use it as a sort of giant Leica.  Unfortunately I didn't get on with it and so sold it on.  There was nothing wrong with the camera, except it felt a bit plasticky, but then I was comparing it to Leica, Linhof and Rollei!  For hand held, mobile, photography I just prefer my Leicas and accept the 'limitations' of 35mm, and for medium format I prefer my Rollei SL66SE on a tripod; slow and clunky I know, but much more me!

a good picture doesn't have to tell a story to be a good picture-but this one definitely does--and is beautiful. Why do I have the idea to go to my shelf and have a glimpse at the HCB section ? 😃

Hi Ken, I had a Mamiya 7ii for some time, with 50mm, 65mm, 80mm and 150mm lenses. The lenses are incredible, and the camera is really neat to use - light, intuitive and ergonomic. The light meter's great, unlike that on the Mamiya 6 which is abysmal. I sold mine because it just wasn't "me". I've sold Hasselblads twice for the same reason, a Fuji GW680, a Bronica GS-1 and a Mamiya 6. Also had a Mamiya 645 until it eventually died on me. My conclusion is that I'm just not a medium format kind of person, although I retain a Rolleiflex that I'm keen to put to more use, and a Voigtländer Perkeo 1 which has been retired and looks good on a shelf. Oh yes, and I also had a Linhof Technika V and quickly decided I wasn't a large format person either. But what is wonderful is that some, like you and fotomas show here, produce wonderful images and get a lot of pleasure out of these great cameras.

Phil, I once had to explain my photo vitrine to my wife: It´s no compulsion, it´s just nice. It´s like having a harem where you can decide every day ad libidum without hard feelings and reproaches.... So there are definitly cameras that come to use rarely, but I would hate not to have them... 😃

Thank you so much Klaus. This is certainly a blue era in so many ways, although I can't say I selected the colour scheme for the photograph with that in mind - it was just there! As for the Canon 50mm f1.4 ltm, it is a lovely lens, well-built, nice positive clicks and focusing, and lots of beautiful character wide open. It is no Summicron, though. Here is a comparison "young leaves" torture test photo I took with the Canon the same time as I took the summicron one above (both 1/1,000 sec at f2, minimum focus distance - 1m for the canon, 0.7m for the summicron):

... and the summicron one (both of these have been linked from my rough jpeg proof scans btw):

So, in answer to your question, I certainly value the Canon ltm lens, especially when I feel like playing with "character" or just want to use f1.4 (which isn't that often, though I really should use that aperture more often, because I do like the effect). It is a useful and valued addition to my camera bag.

My 50mm and 35mm Summicrons, along with Elliott Erwitt's old 135mm Elmar, have just returned from having a CLA by Youxin Ye. They were all pretty dusty inside; now they are spotless!

Phil, excuse my late response, was out of town.. Thank you for taking the trouble to show the difference between the two lenses. It shows nicely that there is not really a better lens ( renderingwise), but only different lenses which may cater for different tastes and different situations. I see your point why you like the canon ltm...

If only the corner stone had been behind the chain link fence...my car´s rear bumper would look differently..no, seriously: a very convincing series and its interesting that it develops from the pure abstraction to the alienated ( or may I say "verfremdend" ? ) reality.  For the colors i like if only best, for the mood the Chain link and the intellectual effort behind it of course the cornerstone

Klaus, I sort of get the intention of your comparison, but what did your wife think of your harem comparison?

You see the sign, run for the train then discover they only go five miles down the track and then turn around as the link to the rest of the national network was ripped out by Dr Beeching in the 1960s (with apologies for a reference that may be obscure to those not familiar with the UK rail system).  Maybe that's why so many people abandoned their luggage at the station...

Thanks for this, Susie. I'll see how it goes. I approach this from 2 sides: I do feel the limitations with my Leica, but my "Texas Leica" (Fuji GSW 690) is massive, fixed lens, and has virtually no focusing screen (which is okay: zone focus to infinity), and I already have that for tripod use. Nice thing is that prices are rising so quickly that I'd probably get most of my money back if/when I tire of it.

A very pleasing photograph, Klaus. Despite the snow I don't know why it reminds me of summer... a summery fabric pattern. At 1600 it might just be around the limit of the tree line.
