After Kodak Ektar , Kodak Portra is not in rest too :)

also nice color without correction , directly from Tiff scanner NK Coolscan

Since I use film , I lose the habit to correct in software a good point for

the apprentice sorcerer like me !

Back to my quick trip to London a couple of weeks ago, here's photo of the underpass close to the King's Cross station.  I consider this a trial run as I will go back next time during rush hour and add "commuter ghosts" like I did with the Canary Wharf station photo.

With that said, which do you like better...?

The first is with Ektar and my SWC

(the colors along the panel changed very frequently and the necessary long exposure captured the multiple changing colors; not much I couldn't have don't about this especially if I want to capture the ghosts next time and not freeze motion)

Adam ,my preference  first B&W , second color ... :)

The b&w in print must be very very (2) nice :)

On my iPhone the picture looks really nice with a good reproduction of the light mood. On a normal screen it is a bit to gritty for my taste.

Wayne Fuji Superia 200 a little more color and definition in comparison with Svema

Agree with me Wayne ?

Thank you for posting

enry

I have to agree. It is difficult for me to judge film, my abilities, or lack thereof, are first and foremost in my mind as I judge a photo I have taken and processed. With these two from the Pen F, they were taken at twilight, handheld, and at shutter speed 1/15. I am impressed with the color of the film. But there is something about the Svema.................... :)

Wayne it's interesting if you can compare both films in the same condition

Thank you

Question please.

For you people shooting Portra, either 160 or 400, are you using box speed or otherwise, and why?

I ask as I've never really shot colour neg and would appreciate a few tips. I read that one should over expose for more contrast if printing and underexposed for scanning to provide a flat base to work from. Agreed? FWIW I'll be using a Pro Lab for development but I'll scan myself. It's this latter part that's a worry inasmuch as which setting will make the scanning part, and colour control, easiest. Hope this makes sense!

Thank you.

Why John ? and which film ?

For your first comment , better surely John. When I scan film 24x36 , I obtain more than

5400x3800 px (Tiff) in comparison the half with M9 (DNG).

More definition in contrary of people who believe that digital is bigger in size

It's a false idea believing digit is bigger !  and you can see again when print, you have

more details  visible !

Best

Henry

"Better" is a loaded word, and I certainly didn't mean it in any absolute or technical sense, but rather more pleasing to my eye.

The ZM Planar 50 is considered a high contrast lens, and the MM1 emphasizes that quality. I often considered more classical lenses for my MM, but I think I can process my Tri-X for the lower contrast, softer look that I prefer using extended development times and less agitation. That's all I was suggesting. High resolution and maximum detail are not qualities I value much.
