Given the comment on Leica's Facebook "including its larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body" ?

I wonder what could be next in the 'under promise and over deliver' stakes. APS-H perhaps. Or is Christmas coming early for the full-frame hopefuls?

Just a built-in, high res, high refresh rate EVF to go;)

Why wait until next tuesday?

You can already see the results of taking photos with Barnack's "Miniatur Camera" here:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/after-works-feierabend/284096-post-your-entry-here-21-barnack.html

And you can't decide anything about a new "Mini" - but each vote for the Barnack Challenge can decide the results. It is still very close...

Voting is open until Sunday, 9th June:

Hmmmmm. The burlesque routine continues as mini-M removes some more cardboard frock. :)

Still not possible to 100% confirm the lens type, but it looks to me more like the X2's retracting style lens, not the non-retracting one in the leaked photo.

That's a real shame. I really hate those 'Russian doll' collapsible electronic zoomy lenses which slow you down and eat battery power and suck up dust. No thanks Leica.

Take a look at the latest box opening teaser pic that Leica posted on their Facebook page. It's been photoshopped. The camera is at an angle but the lens is facing forward. It appears to be the same lens as in the leaked photos but from a front view yet they photoshopped it onto the camera which is at an angle. This makes it look like a collapsable design but it is not.

You do have a point here

Perhaps it was done internally by their online marketing department and they wanted to show some lens and some side but the 3/4 view gave too much or not enough away?

Digilux 2 was the first compact camera witha relatively large sensor, electronic viewfinder and a very fast zoom lens (Oly c-8080 was announced almost at the same time, but it had a broader range and slower zoom lens).

X1 was the first compact camera with a "big" sensor.

M8 was the first serious digital rangefinder.

M9 was the first FF digital rangefinder.

M type 240 was the first FF mirrorless camera with an electronic viewfinder (and a rangefinder too :)).

Such a Digilux 4 (with the specs of the rumor) would be the first large sensor compact with such a slower zoom. In the middle of a world of fixed and interchangeble models. Ok to be first, but.... ;)

I beg pardon to Sigma, even if I'm not really sure it was a succesful model.

I beg pardon to Epson, otherwise Bill will not be talking to me any more (Bill, I'm just kidding :)).

I really and heavily beg pardon to Leica for not mentioning the M Monochrome...

But.... The new image could not be that darn fake zoom aps-c model...OK?

Well they removed the flash off the first unboxing pic so who knows what else they are doing.

I thought about that but in the original unboxing pic the two flaps of the box sides perfectly covered the edges of the pop-up flash so you just didn't know it was there. They didn't actually remove it. I just don't know what they'll do for the final reveal as it would be painfully obvious at that point when you see the whole camera at an angle while the lens is facing forwards. I suppose they will swap it for a different image by then.

I swear they did this same unboxing tease before but I cannot remember what camera it was for, likely either the X1 or X2.

Slaps self about the head. Yep, you're right again. :o I'm not convinced they are playing ball on the lens, it certainly looks skewed.

Oh man I've spent way too long looking at this damn thing!

Not likely: the X1 was presented as a surprise - together with the M9 and S2 on the New York 09/09/09 event. You could search in this forum

The X2 was presented at last Photokina - as a non-surprise.

HI James. haha! I never heard that analogy, but it's pretty apt, and the concerns you raise are real.

But after this latest box reveal, I am now prepared to wait to see what Leica has up its sleeve. Even the leaked $3000+ pricepoint could be a head-fake. I don't know what to expect anymore.

The reveal shows us the general X family styling (created by a famous ex-VW designer, as I recall?), but there could be many surprises yet in areas like sensor, VF, lens, focus speed, lag times, build/materials, handling/size, on-board processor (maestro, anyone?).

We are obviously being played, so I guess we should grab a beer, some popcorn, kick back, and enjoy the ballgame. :)

This actually pleases me, as it makes the lead-up fun again. Great to learn everyone's thoughts and wish-lists. I just hope all are pleasantly surprised by the team at Leica on June 11.

In my unguarded moments, I even begin to think again about FF! :D

Dang it. I have such a feeling of deja vu with this. I swear they did it before.
