but that article is 12 months old. and Pico's point was that the market has declined in the past year.

there are lots of current reports too....it may have declined in the past year OR slowed down---primary due to Chinese government crack downs.....but it is hardly a place with no luxury market, as jdlaing had erroneously alluded to....and to which i was replying.

China is still a big time luxury market, decline or no decline......and arguably the most important upcoming luxury market in the world today.

well i happen to agree with both you and pico. I agree that China remains a big time luxury market, decline or no decline, but Pico was correct that it this market is not booming right now. It's quite the opposite and that is supported by economic data and not just one article from a chinese newspaper, there is a lot of talk about it right now in east and west business media- go look and you will see.

p.s. yes, i agree jdlaing's national mean income point is not really pertinent to this luxury goods issue

China has at least enough money to buy our pigs.

Anyway this expensive me-almost* camera which is aimed at non demanding brand conscious luxury buyers in whatever countries re-enforces how Leica sees itself in today's marketplace. It may be the best they can come up with and it may be a successful strategy.

Whereas making something really cutting edge and useful such as the previously suggested by leohong EVF APS camera, with a type of Speedbooster lens to convert M lenses, would take a lot of R&D for Leica to pull off. Basically, if you look at the small Nex 6 and 7 with integrated EVF and consider the various lens adapters and Speedboosters, the model is there for others to follow. (Maybe not for M lenses.)

* Not even aspiring to be a me-too camera.

At one time there was only one model that carried the Nikon name. When they made something like this they called it a Nikkorex Zoom. So what is old is new again.

I hope Leica remembers history. The CL robbed sales from the M5.

So they should try to not make a more popular product to avoid this?

Should Audi not make an A4 to avoid robbing their R8 sales?

I hope they really come out with something kick-ass.
