Isn't, for instance, a NEX with its kit zoom, exactly this kind of camera ? No doubt that the Leica zoom can be better than Sony's... but there is something I don't understand .... Advertisement Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hi luigi bertolotti, Take a look here Mini M? [MERGED] AKA X-Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalpowershot Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1542 Posted June 10, 2013 To be honest it was fun, or it wasn't... All the M user guessing, what the next MiniM could be... Obviously not the target group as a customer, but as the group spreading the words... But then... what would you choose (if money is not a question): your M + Nocti/Lux or the new Vario for your next summer vacation?!
marknorton Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1543 Posted June 10, 2013 As we might have expected, the reality has failed to live up to expectations. The whole M-mini thing is shown to have been a total nonsense dreamt up by some dim-wit. At best, this camera is a Digilux 4 with a restricted zoom ratio. 2.5:1? Even the Digilux 2 managed better than that at 28-90 mm equivalent focal length. While waiting for a flight in Munich this afternoon, I took a look at the RX-1. Granted, that is fixed focal length but how good would that camera be if you could mount M lenses? That would be a true M-mini instead of this warmed over X2. Come on Leica, you buy in Panasonic P&S's and resell at double the price, how about working with Sony to do the same for the RX-1. A Leica CL revived. Leica continues to disappoint. They are consistently behind the curve in camera innovation and when there is something worth looking at, they can't organise themselves to make them in sufficient quantity. Hopeless. Ecaton Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1545 Posted June 10, 2013 Sloooow, boring zoom range, aging sensor, no EVF, no IS, with EVF around Euro 3000, an ultra premium price considering the specs. It takes guts (or ignorance?) to launch this into a market with competitors like Fuji and Sony.
mjh Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1546 Posted June 10, 2013 That quote in itself highlights the shear, utter absurdity of the campaign. If the connection is none, "not at all" why oh why would anyone in their right mind force that non-connection in a marketing campaign prior to a new camera launch!? It’s a teaser, nothing more. It is intended to raise peoples’ curiosity about a new product (mission accomplished I might say). If you want to know the facts, wait for the big revelation to read the spec sheet etc.. TW528 Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1547 Posted June 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) You mean Leica's own picture has the wrong proportoin about the black box? I doubt Leica would make such mistake, it would be even more insane if that's a mis-guile on purpose. Yes, it's a digitally rendered box. It's at an angle while the camera is not so that when they gradually open it you can see more between the front and right flaps. If the box was straight on you would only see the very top of the camera by now. By having the box at an angle you can also see the lens through the box opening. So yes, it was very much done on purpose. You have way too much faith in Leica's marketing department. It is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT a collapsable lens! Welcome, dear visitor! Reminic Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1548 Posted June 10, 2013 Allow me to adjust my prediction: The mini-M is a camera with a lens. Unless it's the opposite, of course.
HV25 Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1549 Posted June 10, 2013 I hope somebody can explain what the purpose of this camera is because I just don't get it for all the reasons mentioned above. Maybe we have to wait another day and then we see the light

atournas Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1552 Posted June 10, 2013 I noted that before: I can't get why an easily predictable move by Leica--a fixed-lens compact evolving into a zoom-lens version--should be presented as a new brand THREE ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE higher than its younger sister X2. I don't mind Leica producing this new brand--most of us here are not their target group in that event--but let me share what I dreamed of for a MINI M standing between M and X families: - An APS-C 16-18 MP CMOS sensor. - A new zoom lens offered as a kit, for the newcomer. - Lens mount for M lenses and adopter for R lenses. - Shutter control wheel. - Neither RF nor built-in viewer, but accepting external EVF. - Improved X2-like software. - Hint for a monochrome version in the near future (that I would really love). I wouldn't care for more. Paul

dwbell Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1554 Posted June 10, 2013 It’s a teaser, nothing more. It is intended to raise peoples’ curiosity about a new product (mission accomplished I might say). If you want to know the facts, wait for the big revelation to read the spec sheet etc.. Oh yeah, my bad. It was a briliant "teaser", that's right. And when may I ask is the big exciting reveal? Tomorrow you say? Oh golly goodness gosh how terribly exciting! What could it possibly be? I can hardly sleep! Tingly tingle all over my spine! I appreciate you kinda have to drink the kool aid Michael, but I still say this is stoooopid marketing.

Mark D Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1556 Posted June 10, 2013 Perhaps the trouble is that the X was not designed to use both X and M lenses from the beginning?

Thomv Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1558 Posted June 10, 2013 78 pages with more than 1500 posts. Based on nothing but speculation. This makes marketing people very happy. Keep going my friends, as this camera will have a smaller form factor than the M, a lens inferior to the DLux-6 lens and an small CMOS sensor. Minor improvements, major price increase. I am still very happy with my M9-P and DLux-6. (But secretly wishing I have the money for a MM)
Paolo.Battista Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1559 Posted June 10, 2013 It's an X2 but with a zoom lens. That's it. Why is it so hard for people to accept that? No problem to accept that and leave it on the shelves of the shop. It seems an answer to Lunar.... Ok, if you REALLY want to pay for an odd thing, this one is the real bargain I still hope in something different.
