JayGlaze379 Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1363 Posted June 7, 2013 Well, the box on Leica's site opened more, and it looks more and more like "Paula" and the leaked French image are one and the same. All that remains to be seen now is if the left side lug is in fact removable
Brett Cambern Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1364 Posted June 7, 2013 The burning question for is whether the increased size of the body versus the X2 is to accommodate the new zoom or a bigger sensor.
Paul J Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1365 Posted June 7, 2013 The burning question for is whether the increased size of the body versus the X2 is to accommodate the new zoom or a bigger sensor. I bet Leica will call it a "design trick". Well it covers that ugly X2 hotshoe and makes it more M looking. That may be all it is.
stevelap Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1366 Posted June 7, 2013 The burning question for is whether the increased size of the body versus the X2 is to accommodate the new zoom or a bigger sensor. All the sample images in the 'Paula' thread appear to be 16mpx. Make of that what you will, but APS-C seems likely.
Guest snowboarder Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1367 Posted June 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brilliant move by Leica. Brilliant marketing too… They announce a Mini-M camera. The rumors report it's a lame compact with a slow zoom. So Leica responds: come back to see on June 11, the rumors are wrong, it's an "unusually" big sensor. At the end it's a lame compact with a slow zoom. Nothing unusual about the sensor. Nothing M about it. What planet are they living on ??? I also love the guy with a Leica blog, yesterday his confirmed specs were 24MP and a "fasterer" zoom, now as Leica released official samples, his confirmed specs magically changed to 16MP and a slow zoom, as originally reported…
Larzon Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1368 Posted June 7, 2013 Maybe it's the Leica X with a mft Mount. Would be at least a nice idea. Better than a fixed zoom lens. And with Panasonic/Olympus there are a some nice lenses available and with adaptor a lot M Lenses to use also.
douglasf13 Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1369 Posted June 7, 2013 Guys, the RX1 EVF is great. I recommend it over all the optical ones. The RX1 was an experiment by Sony. It wasn't built down to a price. Sony engineers were told to build the smallest FF camera they could with the best components. Sony then priced it appropriately, to make their standard margin. The accessories are a bit overpriced but after using this camera for some months Sony can do no wrong in my eyes BTW it was only £50 for a charger and spare battery kit from amazon.de. I am using a JJC metal lens hood. and hoya pro filter (B+W filters don't fit under hood as the rim is too thick). Well, I prefer an optical OVF, and returned the EVF, because, while it is the best EVF to date, I still prefer using the OVF occasionally supplemented with the LCD. I also don't think the RX1 was just an experiment, and I'll bet that the rumored new RX camera will simply be a different focal length, but still remain modular to use with the RX accessories, which I'm fine with. I like the modular nature of the RX1. You can add grips, viewfinders, etc., and then strip it down for ultimate packability.
Steve Ash Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1370 Posted June 7, 2013 I have no problem that Leica got it wrong at the beginning of the project. But I do not get why they did not dumb the project after the announcement of the RX1 almost a year ago. What a ridiculous waste of resources! lct Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1371 Posted June 7, 2013 The RX1 has no zoom lens. It's useless for a lot of customers.
luigi bertolotti Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1372 Posted June 7, 2013 Well... in a more soft way... if they have been satisfied of the sales of X series, a zoomed X is a natural prosecution... what is a bit disturbing / disillusioning is this viral blah around the M name... dkCambridgeshire Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1373 Posted June 7, 2013 Well... in a more soft way... if they have been satisfied of the sales of X series, a zoomed X is a natural prosecution... what is a bit disturbing / disillusioning is this viral blah around the M name... Maybe not if the alleged/rumoured/stated Leica names are considered ie MAX MINI and MICRO all begin with M and all are Leica designs - as distinct from NANO which are modified Panasonic. dunk

sblitz Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1375 Posted June 7, 2013 so the difference between mini and micro is a zoom lens? doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective to put an X3 in a different class from an X2. hence, I would live to believe there is something different going to be announced. remember when we were all convinced the M10 was coming out on May 10 when it was the MM? who would've guess. Rumors aside, I still believe mini M is the M240 w/o the optical view finder. It is what would make the mini M mini

dkCambridgeshire Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1377 Posted June 7, 2013 It is M for Mediocre I am afraid. A rather dogmatic comment considering we still do not know the exact specification of the new camera(s). When did Leica ever make a mediocre camera ... ie a Leica design as distinct from another manufacturer's modified design? dunk
digitalpowershot Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1378 Posted June 7, 2013 If the lens would be a f/2 all the range, then this would be the best marketing campaign ever made. Otherwise, starting at "f/3,5@28mm" (considering on a crop sensor it's even worse), this camera is nothing to talk about and will be hated.
stunsworth Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1379 Posted June 7, 2013 A rather dogmatic comment considering we still do not know the exact specification of the new camera(s) It's the X2 equivalent of the Minilux zoom in the film days - which had a short (35-70mm), slow (f3.5-6.3) zoom. I prefered the faster 40mm fixed lens, so I bought that camera rather than the zoom Minilux. A faster zoom wouldn't be sensible on a camera of this size with a sensor of this size. The D2 - which has been mentioned several times - had a fast lens that was physically large, and that was for a much smaller sensor. How large would an equivalent lens need to be on an APS-C sensor? I once owned a full frame f2.8 constant aperture 28-80mm EOS lens. It was enormous, and heavy with it.
stunsworth Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1380 Posted June 7, 2013 If the lens would be a f/2 all the range, then this would be the best marketing campaign ever made An f2 constant aperture lens would be enormous. Totally unpractical on a camera of this size with an APS-C sensor. That's before considering the cost of such a lens.
