stevelap Posted May 31, 2013 Share #961 Â Posted May 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) When did the subject change to flaming Audis? Isn't it time to return to flaming the Leica 107? Â I think some Brits were jealous of German autos and the fact that their own cars break down all the time. Â We're not jealous of 'German autos' ............we just have a problem with Audi's . Advertisement Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Hi stevelap, Take a look here Mini M? [MERGED] AKA X-Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doolittle Posted May 31, 2013 Share #962 Â Posted May 31, 2013 I do not like Audi's. These Volkwagens in (minor) disguise usually appeal to ignorant drivers. Personally I never give way to an Audi. Tough, they unfortunately did choose the wrong make :-)) Â (Flames are welcome :-))))) Â Audi did make one of my favourite car ads: Â Â Trouble is, I empathise when the protagonist says "Nah, it's not really my style"
NZDavid Posted May 31, 2013 Share #963  Posted May 31, 2013 And Jaguar is now owned by Tata of India, I gather, though I don't see the relevance.  Prob the aps-c as the dlux6 is a 1/1.7" and has over a 4x crop  Possibly. Somewhere I came across a comparison of DOF relative to sensor size, aperture, and focal length. Basically f/1.4 on a small sensor is the equivalent of something like f/5.6-8 on a full-frame.  Which is more useful: larger APS sensor or lens speed? stevelap Posted May 31, 2013 Share #964  Posted May 31, 2013 leica just posted this on their FB. lol!  "Just posted"? That illustration has been shown on their homepage for quite some time, I think even before we detected the "leaked" one. It was mentioned earlier in this thread. Here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/285598-mini-m-post2410893.html#post2410893  Pop, I think he was referring to the 'Rumors' comment in the text bubble above the box, that was new. stunsworth Posted May 31, 2013 Share #965  Posted May 31, 2013 I have no beef with Leica going after new customers, certainly not. But I'm disappointed that they seem to be doing it with a camera that is priced way more, and 'specced' less, than those offered by other companies. As others have noted, a Fuji X-E1 with so-called kit lens will cost a third less but offer better zoom range and aperture, be roughly the same size, AND offer the option to change lenses  Aside from the M rangefinders - where it doesn't apply due to there being no 'other companies' - has their ever been a Leica camera that wasn't more expensive and under specified in comparison to the opposition? Leica manufacture on a scale that doesn't allow them to compete on price wrt larger manufacturers. Sony/Canon/Nikon etc probably sell more of one of their compacts in a week than Leica sells in total in a year.

Sony/Canon/Nikon etc probably sell more of one of their compacts in a week than Leica sells in total in a year. Â I think the S cameras are an exception. They offer a very sturdy and "compact" way to shoot medium format, and have stellar (but costly) lenses. Not quite full medium format, but far larger than 35mm, the S cameras are literally in a class of their own, and apparently perform beautifully. Â But this new camera, if it is real, is seriously 'underspecced' compared with the competition. The X1 was overpriced but not that underspecced, albeit having very little competition in the fixed-lens aps-c compact market.
gyoung Posted May 31, 2013 Share #968  Posted May 31, 2013 When I bought my M3 the premium over the Nikon f competition was about 10%, and spec was similar, with the m of course you for access as now to the best lenses and the camera is well built enough to last my lifetime. Now the premium is more like 50-100%, often just for a red dot sticker, and its lifetime is that of the electronics. Plus trips back to solms to fix things that shouldn't need fixing  Gerry
Peter H Posted May 31, 2013 Share #969 Â Posted May 31, 2013 When I bought my M3 the premium over the Nikon f competition was about 10%, .............. Â Maybe that's why Leica nearly went bust.

Lee Martin Posted May 31, 2013 Share #978 Â Posted May 31, 2013 Would put money on FF/24MP + 35 summicron + EVF Â Make it an optical one, as it's a fixed lens there's no great need for the EVF, and I'd buy one .

They are quite comparable in price. Leica lenses are more expensive but they have always been more expensive. The old mechanical Nikons were also good for a lifetime but no camera of any brand with electronics will have that kind of useful life. In that, Leica is in the same boat as everybody else. If you don't want to deal with the obsolescence of electronics, then your only choice is to stick with film and film cameras.
