If this turn out to be true it's a huge missed opportunity for Leica to be the first to market with a full frame EVIL camera.
This puzzles me, Stephen.

Surely Leica is already the first to market with a full frame EVIL camera in the M240?

Later,

Well' date=' let me be the first to say that I really like this camera. Sure, the lens is a bit on the slow side, but if it has excellent image quality it will make a fine back-up body for an M. The X2 has many fans and this will also. My biggest fear was a camera like this with a small sensor. I'll take a slow lens over a small sensor any day of the week.

Now off to preorder from my dealer :)[/quote']

Wow!

You will be the first (and only) in line!

This would be such a huge fail if they hyped up the Mini M and it ended up being this.

...

Well, they didn't hype - we did it for them.

If the leak is showing the real camera, some people at Solms will be happy for the disappointment. They just wouldn't be able to fulfill the hyped demand.

If the leak is just a fake and the camera will only fulfill some of the hype's expectations, Solms is just going to reinvent viral marketing.

If the" leaked" image is actually it, they might as well shut the box lid now ! It will make the Canon EOS M look like a well designed best seller. Innovative ? No, unique ? No. Better than other manufacturers offerings at a third of the potential price ? , No.

If you are going to enter the maket late, don't arrive offering what the market has already tried and tested, and ask 3 times the price. IMHO Hasselblad are going to look ridiculous when they and pass off the Sony Nex 7 , with a new hand grip bolted on (wow) ,next week, as if its something amazing that they have come up with, at over 5 times the price. Nobody in their right mind will hand over hard earned cash for that surely . I really hope Leica have aimed higher and that this is a clever hoax.

At 669 posts and still two weeks to go....jeez...it's just another camera to use for taking pictures, folks.

I am spending my time actually taking pictures with my M3 and my X1...no ulcers here.:p What does it make mine? A Maxi and a Micro? Hardly.

I commend Leica for filling the gap marketing-wise. Just waiting to see the reveal on the 11th. No worries.

If the leaked camera spec is close to reality... I just don't get it.

I don't get the camera. I don't get what hole it fills. And I don't get the marketing spin on it being a Mini M.

I'm confused.

Another marketing trick? If so we will really be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to actually have interchangeable lenses no matter what else.

On the other hand why would Leica make a "reasonably priced" fairly versatile camera system that could end up competing with the M system? Full frame or not.

I really don't believe that Leica is that arrogant. My expectation would be that the marketing and R&D department should be in shock, and rushing to rectify what is a colossal cock-up. They start a marketing campaign (anyone else remember the Lloyds Bank cat out of the bag campaign from the late 1980s?), saying they're going to fill the gap they know we've all been looking at, and then they release this?

The damage to their reputation for raising expectations (knowing the demand for the much talked about EVIL camera), to then release a very average zoom version of a camera that has already tanked defies belief.

Stephan Daniels must be hiding his head in embarrassment - he as much as anyone raised hopes about an interchangeable lens camera with AF, and this is whT they come up with?

I'll wait till 11 June before cancelling my order, and I will then sell my NEX and I will look very hard at the RX-1. My M9 & Monochrom will see me out. I won't be wasting any more of my money on Leica.

Pffft - hopeless.

Everyone is assuming that this camera in the French jpg is the only camera Leica have up their sleeve. Although it looks like a real camera, it might not be. It most certainly doesn't fit the proposal by Stefan Daniel a couple of years ago.

All this wailing and gnashing of teeth over a daft rumour really is a bit over the top, IMHO.

Mr. Daniel is head of the M section - he is hardly likely to take responsibility for another division.

The mock-up, real or not, looks very much like the original Digilux 2, a much loved camera. Why the criticism when that camera had so many fans? I think using "M" in the marketing shouldn't be taken too seriously.

The difference is this would be a Leica not a Panasonic design. The mock-up looks nicer but the X2 (?) beside it looks curvier. The original Digilux had a big and bulky but useful f/2 28-90 lens. Faster and wider would be better, but the bigger the sensor, the bigger the lens.

Fixed lens, or interchangeable? I would hope the latter. It would mean Leica could compete in a burgeoning mirrorless market. These cameras are all descendants of the original Oscar Barnack Leica concept of a small but capable system camera.
