Guarantee extension? At incredible price=admitting their camera are weak?

ummm....you do realize I hope that companies ALWAYS make money on selling extra warranty terms to paranoid customers right? this is a business first and foremost....it's not a human rights commission that simply cares about people. LOL

 

ALL companies offer extended warranties for their products....not because they think their products are going to fail....but because they know there are people who (A) ask for extended warranties and (B) are willing to spend the money. Extended warranties are very profitable as most people don't use them during their ownership, as seen across all industries.....it is a 'paranoia purchase' for the most part.

It can be. An alternative view is that it is a hedge against the potential cost of an out-of-warranty repair. An individual may feel that they can afford €295 but they will not be in a position to pay €1500 for an expensive repair or €6000 to buy a new camera. In that situation, it is not illogical to buy an extended warranty (that you most likely will not use) when the alternative is to run a risk of having to forego the use of the camera altogether.

Bad statistics, perhaps. Independent events, much like successive coin tosses, where the odds of heads or tails are always 50/50. It's called 'gambler's fallacy' for a reason.;)

Yes. But you cannot balance the loss of a used camera against the purchase of a new one. Another used one, ok.

hi I've just realized that if I would subscribe one more year guarantee for my M cameras I have to pay :

 

1 - euro 292 for M9-p (6000 euro camera)

2 - euro 680 for Monochrom (6800 euro camera)

 

In my opinion this is like to admit for Leica their stuff are prone to have issues within three years... But 680 euro per year is like to say : i have built something approximatley and you should sent it to me almost surely ... Or not?

Paying more than 12000 euro should not assure somethin more confidence in my stuff?

Extended warranties are almost always pure profit. Nobody't twising your arm to purchase it.

Ok the conclusion is :

 

1 - one camera could cost 100, 1000, 1000 euro but customers have to expect the same percentage of issues in all the cameras with the same chances,.....

 

2- in any case you can only buy, but please do not complain and "so not disturb the bus driver"

 

3 - since we are felt in love with Leica we have no rights to complain for Leica commercial policy, but if we want Leica we pay ifor t and who moans is a psycopatic.

 

So I repeat "the mother of all question" : should I expect more confidence in a 6000 euro camera than in a 1000 euro ?the answer is NOT : banding, dead pixels, card reading issue, focus issue (35mm 1,4 asp I) , rattling (35 Fle sx 1,4), carrying eyelets in M240,.... Only normal issues...

 

So please Leica do what you want with my wallet and I will never disturb you with any complain..I only buy buy buy... In silence

 

And when I should realize that the percentage of issues in m10 are the same of in one Samsung camera I'll never disturb you...

If anything, I think you should have less confidence in the reliability of the €6000 camera than the €1000 one, especially if the latter is made in Japan.:)

 

The devoted can spin it however they like but I don't think many owners of mainstream cameras like the DSLRs from Canon and Nikon have ever had to contend with cracked sensor glass or the strap lugs falling off.

Spot on.

 

With the above mind, as I see it, it's a judgement call whether I take up an offer of an extended warranty...

 

For example: With the £14 wireless door bell I bought, I didn't - an extra 12 months = £12 :eek: With my last new car purchase, I did - coverage for year 3 - 4 = £300 :)

The Best Warranty:

The company includes estimated repair statistics in the price, then provides a reasonably long-term warranty at no extra cost, covering function only, excluding normal cosmetic wear & tear, abuse, loss, and improper care.

The best extended warranty I have found is from the UK cvonsumer electronics dealer Ri**er S**nds. No messing about; pay 10% of whatever it cost for an extension to 5 years. I claimed on mine after four and a half years, and got a new replacement telly when the old one couldn't be repaired. And you can claim the premium back at the end of the term if you haven't claimed. Oh, and a claim within the first year doesn't cout for this because it's covered by the manufacturer's own warranty. Why can't Leica offer something similar?
