I have printed those 2 images 13x19 so far and the immense amount of detail is truly awesome.

39x57 seems easy to print based on the IQ.

Did you happen to see my images taken with the R15/2.8? Even the Dale Photo guys were amazed at the IQ corner to corner.

I was very impressed with the shot, all of yours really, and am looking to pick one up for my M. I have a 19 from my R system and am waiting for my adapter to arrive. Hope its as sharp as the 15.

JH-I just use the Novoflex LEM/LER adapter as I got tired of waiting for the Leica adapter. If only it brought up the 28/90 frame lines then I could access the R lens list for EXIF data.

Rendering of depth and smooth, natural shapes are the characteristics that impress me most in the 50 APO... after all, there are many very sharp lenses these days. I had difficulty finding images that blared out with these qualities once down-res'd severely for posting on the forum (from .psd for 13 x 19 prints).

But I said I would try, so here are two shots at f2. They are cropped a bit to save space and have WB adjustment along with mild sharpening. The vignetting at f2, which is noticeable at the extreme corners, is cropped away. I think you get a sense of the perfect rendition of shape and texture. The portrait is on M9, 1/30s, in terrible light. The still life is on M240, 1/125s, and color is perfecto.

I am sure the 50 APO is crisper at f4, but I cannot shake my infatuation with the smoothness of the images at f2... they seem alive to me.

Using the M with LV and EVF at f8 for needed depth.

Every dealer I have talked to since the first batch came out around 1 Feb has said they have not seen any since then and many believe that they only made around 50 for that first batch.

This could go down as the rarest Leica lens pretty soon as the R 35-70/2.8 had only about 155 made from what I hear.

Peter and Lou, thanks for posting. The lens is certainly unique, dare I say 35 FLE, 0.95 Noct, 50 Summilux lenses melted down to make one APO 50? Sure looks like a combo of all three very superb very special lenses. Oh why only 50 made to date, the first 50 will be special, cost when I get mine next week, month, year, whenever, it will go down as the best wait.:)

Koala, I am glad that the images conveyed something at low resolution of both detail and color. Peter Karbe has described the 50 APO as a "melting" of the 35 FLE and 50 SX ASPH, as you did. But I would add, IMHO, the 50 APO is in a league or two higher than those two excellent and expensive lenses (and so, the 50 APO is quite a deal :p). And it comes with an impressive, industrial grade lens cap!

This lens is such a joy to use I am contemplating selling all the other 50's (8) I own except for my f1.0. If in a year I find them collecting dust, that's what I'll probably do.

I give up! And we are all giving up, referring to those of us waiting for one especially for a lens that is going for a premium  I figure I will be happy just with the box and that cool lens cap:p Any box and cool lens cap shipping?

Felt that I needed to add another line......the tack sharp and the bokeh.....that's something.....and the contrast.....and the detail.....that's something......:) just imagine if this lens is now discontinued, kicking myself for not pre ordering following its launch.

Koala, I am certain that Leica will make the 50 APO for a long time, so please do not worry. I ordered mine before the official announcement and after I had rented a Coastal Optics 60mm APO for my D800E... My Leica dealer mentioned the rumor of a 50 Summicron at a price above $7k and, guessing what Leica had done, I ordered it then.

Lou is correct. Probably the most impressive thing about the 50 APO is that it arrives in largest box you can imagine! I guess this idea came from cosmetics marketing? I think I could stuff 10 of the M240 fatso bodies in the 50 APO's box :D

And I do know that a second round was shipped out of my NY dealer in late April. So the 50 APO is out there... sounds like the Paris dealer is the best near-term connection (and save VAT shipping to US!).

Peter, with every available lens snapped up the moment it leaves Solms, you are right they are going to keep making them for a long time. The APO 50 will soon overtake the Noctilux 0.95 for the longest wait for a lens. I have no interest in the Noctilux 0.95 due to its size and weight notwithstanding its delightful IQ and its current availability. Patience is virtue as the saying goes. And with some luck, like Younnes, one might just turn up next month. ;)

The Lux 50 and the Lux 35 FLE is keeping the M9 company for the time being and no complains there. The APO 50 is actually planned to go with M240, so with both on the slow delivery train we shall just wait for that train to arrive and enjoy and marvel every APO 50 / M240 pic posted by the lucky early owners. What fun:D
