Yup, another D2 convert, and a very happy one, got a nearly mint one on the usual auction site having waited long for the right one. It is entirely like shooting a slow transparency film camera, careful focus, spot on exposure etc etc, but fabulous results, way more impressive than the lenses I would have to pay for with a good DSLR rig, and as I get older no more shoulder ache. Thanks to all you previous posters for convincing me! I was quite pleased with the action shots too.

Welcome Outfor23 to the Forum! I presume you are/were a cricketer!

As a very early user of the Digilux 2 it is heartening to find new converts who really know what they want and how to achieve the best from this classic camera. Do look at Thorsten's legendary website for his detailed treatise on the D2. Although I guess your past experience will be more than sufficient to obtain excellent results.

I was using mine in the garden yesterday and was again surprised by its low weight compared to my system cameras. I often use it in an exploratory role before using my M8 although the latter cannot compete with the D2's close-up capability. Here is a 60% crop of one image from a personal project.

Hi David

Yes, average batting score along with a line from my fave Genesis track, ( I fit the demographic..English male, middle class, middle age etc etc)

Thems gooseberries methinks? the D2 does give such a natural feel to images, and when its sharp... fantastic

I'm slowly learning its foibles but when its good its mighty witness the lovely shots from Shane H.

Although I'm something of gp (read F1) fan I particularly like the black and white shot. Great composition. When you say its a colour shot converted to B+W, is that from RAW or JPEG?

Something that I love about the D2 is the smoothness of the tones, particularly when printed.

I got mine from said "well know auction site". Mine is really not so minty. Either owned by a war zone reporter or they ordered a football and the D2 turned up, but I got it mucho cheap. Its a late serial number model with a low shutter count and as Mr Overgaard says, I will use her until she breaks then send her off to Leica for some TLC. Fortunately I will have a more minty back up by then.

Despite its size the D2 is my go everywhere camera as I cant help thinking of the image I would have captured if I'd left my Dlux 4 at home. Just need to have my shirt breast pockets strengthened and enlarged.

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots.

Hi

The B/W conversion was from a JPEG, with a bit of tweaking in levels to give some more contrast and..ahem, to straighten the horizon!

My D2 is a late model, I'm the 3rd owner, and no doubt at some point will get the Solms TLC!

This one of my 12yr/20yr old daughter again shot in colour, edited using the b/w conversion tool, and some of Mr Overgaard's dodge and burn tricks

Wow!

Just when I think I've seen everything this amazing camera can offer (I spend too much time trawling the net for D2 images) I see an image that almost transports me somewhere else.

John, dont get me wrong I love the images you post, but this time (second from bottom)...

I need a holiday. That is... (insert superlative of choice). Gosh!

I wonder if anyone knows the name of the person who was in charge of the image tuning for this wonderful camera?

I have no doubt that it was a team work. But still I am sure someone who had a very high taste for photography was in charge of the final image characteristics, compromises, coherence of the lens with the sensor or vice versa?

An interesting thought, Kamil. Lens design accreditation seems only to happen after the designer's death! If alive, I hope he/she is aware of our respect.

Something tells me that; a.) she wasn't cheap and that you've paid dearly. and b.) she's worth her weight in gold.

She's lovely and this is terrific photo. Thanks for sharing on both counts.

PS: I was in your neck of the woods this weekend. Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.. - Wow... a little humid up there? I couldn't wait to get back to Florida to cool off. LOL

Andy,

Wouldn't its photos be upside down?

Pete.

Good one! LOL

I can't get over the price, though. I find myself shuffling in my seat wondering how much a pimped out leather version with matching bag and strap could bring. Surely, I'd be well on my way to used M8?

After posting a WTB for a Digilux 2 in the classifieds here today, I found myself deleting it an hour later. I found one in the UK on ebay, and should have it late next week with luck. :)

I look forward to contributing to this forum in the future.
