Pete: These images go far beyond "Do Digilux 2 photos have a distinctive look?" And while I've always enjoyed the celebration this thread bestows on the Digilux 2, part of me wants to add "...when held in capable hands."

Someone recently repeated a story of a hostess complimenting a photo and noting to the photographer, "That's some camera you have." Later after dinner, the photographer complimented the hostess on the fine meal she had served, adding... "that must be some stove you have."

These aren't about the Digilux 2... these are about capable hands that happened to be using a Digilux 2. Really well done.

I will need to remember that. :-)

Interesting thought, here I'm going to Berlin later next month and I was trying to decide if I wanted to take my Digilux 2 as a back up for my M9. After seeing your wonderful pictures taken by excelent photographers using the Digilux 2, I decided it makes more sense to restate my question. " Do I want to take my M9 as a back up for my Digilux 2 and what lenses should I take?"

Hank

Personally, I would take the M9 and a 35mm for personal shooting and the Digilux 2 for walk around "tourist" shooting. There are times the Digilux 2 is perfect with it's zoom and autofocus capabilities. It's quick, capable and pretty much guarantees you'll capture the scene as it unfolds in front of you.

But... for those opportunities where you are simply shooting for personal gratification, the M9 is unrivaled.

Just as an example: When I'm working a race weekend, for obvious reasons my Leicas don't get used trackside. However, I'll roam the paddock (and event) with my M8.2 and a 35mm... ferreting out details and interesting scenes. But when I go and shoot the autograph session and want head shots of the drivers, I know I'm going to be dodging in and out of fans.. the drivers will be signing and chatting (and making awkward faces) etc., so I'll rely on the autofocus and zoom of the Digilux 2 get the shots I want. Yes... I could do this with my Canon 5D MKII.... but the Digilux 2 still gives me that rangefinder feel and approach.

Do not leave the M9 at home. I think you'll regret it.

Thanks John makes a lot of sense... I was thinking along these lines but wanted to take my zeiss 21 f2.8, the 35mm pre summilux my 75f.2 and maybe the 135tele f4. But also love my pre 50 mm. There I go again, trying to cut back on weight but tempted to bring more lenses. Crazy I know, may just settle with the 35mm for my M9 and maybe the 21mm.

Man up and take the 35mm. Make it work. :) I love one-lens shooting. It makes you "see."

Hank - the x100 is a 35mm lens equivalent. light, no decisions, great images and no mental stress. You won't even need international insurance and worrying about traveling in places

like Germany. Not sure there if there's an airshow scheduled, but there is a lot of "stuff" I look

forward to seeing.

Flowers seem to be the thing. This is an African Lily.
