Like everyone else who has the camera I find the qualities of the D2 to be very unique. I'm not even sure how I would describe the differences between it and my other cameras but differences there are. Best just to sit back and enjoy the view.

This photo--one of my favourite D2 images--was taken in St. Paul, Alberta, about 100 miles northeast of Edmonton. One of the things that has always impressed me about the Prairies is the proliferation of beautiful old churches that one can find just about anywhere--most of the towns have them but you're just as likely to encounter wonderful old structures out in the middle of nowhere.

The sky was threatening rain and possibly thunder when I found St. Paul Cathedral--there's a strong French-Canadian presence in the area so the church is also known as Cathedrale St.Paul--and took this picture of the bell tower framed by the angry sky.

Yet another recent D2 owner. I bought it just to see for myself what all the talk was really about, and now I'm completely hooked. Hooked on the way the camera works. Hooked on the cameras aethetics. Hooked on the weight of the camera. It just feels like a serious piece of kit. Its only when you start to compare the printed images with, in my opinion, its lesser brethren the D Lux4, that you begin to understand the growing fan base.

In the past I've always been disappointed by the way in which images viewed on a computer screen seem to lose something in the printing (even with the correct printer settings). The Digilux images actually get better with the printing, especially black and white images, and in particular portraits. The only thing missing is a wind on lever.

I don't shoot with my Digilux 2 anyore but I'll get back to it eventually. Some old stuff I found in an abandoned hard disk a couple of days ago. I used to like taking the smooth JPEGs and making them as gritty as my Ricoh GRD's output.:D

I laughed when I read this... I do a similar thing with my Canon 5D MK11. Because of it's amazing performance at high ISO I find myself shooting at 2400 ISO a lot just for the smooth grain. :) They're gorgeous.

Yup, another D2 convert, and a very happy one, got a nearly mint one on the usual auction site having waited long for the right one. It is entirely like shooting a slow transparency film camera, careful focus, spot on exposure etc etc, but fabulous results, way more impressive than the lenses I would have to pay for with a good DSLR rig, and as I get older no more shoulder ache. Thanks to all you previous posters for convincing me! I was quite pleased with the action shots too.

Wow, Outfor23. You covered a lot of ground with those shots. I love the black and white shot (which is why I bought my D2), and the colours and lighting in the park scene are great.

Ive just finished printing a dozen or more jpegs from yesterdays diversion. The camera is so surprising it has definitely altered my opinion of what constitutes a worthy subject.

Hi LeicaMAC

Many thanks!

I've been out taking pictures again! The D2 is certainly a challenging camera, all the comments were inspiring me to get back to basics and go look for better images after years of DSLR doldrums.

just for info; 1st pic - Lotus F1 91T at Snetterton UK (Lotus GP revival festival)

pic 2; The Backs at Cambridge UK just cropped top and bottom

pic 3 weathered sea defences West Runton beach UK, original in colour, B/W conversion in Elements 6

pic 4; field poppy somewhere in Norfolk, no edit

I haven't yet printed as a new printer is the next target, but can't wait to try.

Outfor23

Although I'm something of gp (read F1) fan I particularly like the black and white shot. Great composition. When you say its a colour shot converted to B+W, is that from RAW or JPEG?

Something that I love about the D2 is the smoothness of the tones, particularly when printed.

I got mine from said "well know auction site". Mine is really not so minty. Either owned by a war zone reporter or they ordered a football and the D2 turned up, but I got it mucho cheap. Its a late serial number model with a low shutter count and as Mr Overgaard says, I will use her until she breaks then send her off to Leica for some TLC. Fortunately I will have a more minty back up by then.

Despite its size the D2 is my go everywhere camera as I cant help thinking of the image I would have captured if I'd left my Dlux 4 at home. Just need to have my shirt breast pockets strengthened and enlarged.

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots.

Few from the weekend - all B&W jpegs, first straight out of the camera then a few with various processing techniques - starting to really enjoy the D2
