Thanks, John.

And without 'tit-for-tatting':o those are 3 lovely pictures! I'm surprised that there's no flare in the 3rd picture that has the sun in frame. Did you use some special technique (can't think what would do it) or is this just confirmation of how good the Vario-Summicron lens actually is?

I think there are a couple of things in play here. First, I exposed for the background... hence the silhouette. Second, the seagull had an incredible sense of timing... and lastly, the lens is that good.

If and when I see any type of flare bouncing across the lens with this camera is if I try exposing more for the foreground and when the sun is more centered to the photo. I will tell you, though... this is my favorite camera for shooting sunsets. It's frustrating that I can't get the same results with my 5D MK11 because I'd really like the file size. :)

Thanks,

JT

Twilight shots are the one shot I'd urge you to play with the PP on Digilux 2 files. As good as they look, you can really punch them up...

John,

Point well-taken.

Marvelously demonstrated, as well. Hope you thanked that seagull with a bit of king crab!

The seagull didn't stick around long... but the little angler in the foreground has been hanging around with his hand open ever since. LOL - There have been a lot of chicken nuggets change hands between us. ;)

For all those who are not that familiar with the Digilux 2 ... I think Thorsten Overgaard's Review of his camera and the useful tips should be mentioned again:

leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Sites - Leica Digilux 2 sample photos and tests (as well as Panasonic DMC-LC1) - Page 1 of 3

By the way I started a little personal website about my forthcoming experiences with that camera.

digiluxer's posterous - about me and the Leica Digilux 2

Best wishes to all of you

Here's an example of what the Digilux 2 converted to black and white in the camera will offer at ISO 400 (thanks for the tip, Dominic). This was taken during a recent Forum excursion to London's Highgate cemetery and the bar was not well lit.

Digilux 2 at 90 mm, f/2.4, ISO 400 handheld at 0.3 seconds.

Hi Alberto,

I went outside awhile ago to see if I could replicate and figure out exactly what my problem is, because it's really been bugging me. I discovered that when the sun is at my back it reflects off the silver surface of the D2, and into my right eye,......

I will try to autofocus more frequently, as well; seems like very good advice.

Thanks so much!

Unless I have no option, I always avoid having the sun at my back. Why? Uninteresting flat lighting.

Also, I've put pieces of black gaffers tape on the silver around the eye piece to cut down glare.

Pete - not sure what method you use but I always use forum member Andy Piper's method (Adan) which works well.

I just did a trip to Japan and shot entirely with the Digilux 2, I posted a thread in the travel section http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/123006-nishinomiya-japan.html#post1304640

That looks like a great place for a bowl of Miso. Great shot, it made me hungry.

For those of you that have not taken the time, I HIGHLY recommend you peruse Morgan's gallery from this trip. He has found a personal "zone" with his Digilux 2 that rivals the very best in traditional rangefinder/Leica shooting style. The images are spectacular for their style, mood, tone and subtly of content. Take a look... you won't be sorry. Well you will... if only that the images are not yours. :)
