The menu ("moules bouchot", two options, 14,50) and the names carved into the tree ("Dustin + Emilie") are quite inevitably lost on 960px :D

Cheers, Alexander.

It's always amazed me that one can take a 200 mb scan; discard 98% of it when downsing to a 250kb version for the web and see anything that will distinguish it from an original 4 mb capture, downsized to 250kb. More often than not, you can observe a substantial difference.

I usually process my images as if they were to be displayed at 30" wide and draw some satisfaction that I can see the detail, like the name carving you describe. For most images it's unnecessary, but I get some personal satisfaction from the process. Conversely, I'm tending to make small prints for reasons of handling and storage. :)

Fuji UK were good enough to let me have one on extended loan to try out, it was one camera I was sorry to have to hand back and I may yet buy one.

I must admit the Fuji (or the Bessa equivalent) is the only camera that is on my "future buy" radar at the moment. When (if:mad:) my Monochrom ever comes back from service I am thinking of calling time on it and replacing it with something better (yet still eminently portable) like the GFW670.

It's a very interesting camera, Ian. I've researched it several times, but not pulled the trigger. and hopefully never will.

Yes, I think I'll hold off (might still sell the Monochrom though). I must admit I'm quite enjoying using film M bodies again and the small grainy format of 35mm film isn't the limitation I was expecting it to be (for landscape stuff) after quite a few years of using only digital. Tonality trumps resolution I suppose.:)

What about a Mamiya 6? The lenses are so incredibly sharp, and on the 6 (as opposed to the 7), the lens is retracted into the body when not in use. I'm sad to say I also get some mysterious enjoyment from poring over the tiny details in a 4000dpi scan.

Xpan, absolutely no doubt about it. Translates my vision perfectly.

Does the Xpan focus?

.

Absolutely!

It's a rangefinder.

Just a pity it wasn't fitted with LTM lens mount.

NB23, on what machine do you scan your XPan films?

I'm still playing with an adapter for my Nikon Coolscan 8000.

What LTM lens would cover?

Your right Pico, but one must remember that the XPan is instantly switchable from Pana to standard so LTM could have been used for standard 35mm format shooting. In which case you might as well use a Leica, I know. :)

Just to mention, an adapter for Leica R to Xpan exists. At least the SA 35/4 PC covers most of the pan format. Haven't tried though.

Catching up on some editing in LR5, this photo of the St John the Baptist Church in Mildenhall, Wilts reminded me that the

definition & detail produced by my venerable Rolleicord Vb never fails to delight me! (Portra 160).

This is my current favourite. It is a Graflex Century Crown Graphic. It has taken a bit to get it how I want it. I now have a Singer Graflex 6 x 9 cm lever wind back on it. To get the optimal coverage, I have a very unusual lens for a Graflex, an 80mm f2.8 Tessar. It was very difficult to find the correct 80mm cam for the Kalart Rangefinder and in the end I found someone to make one for me. Cross checking with the ground glass screen, it seems spot on. The only problem is that the aperture control is a bit hidden and there is no T setting on the shutter to lock it open for ground glass focussing, so you have to use the lock screw on the cable release.
