Thread protector for 35/1.4 FLE

Hi all,

I am curious if anyone knows the Leica part number for the thread protector (the ring you screw on instead of the hood) on the 35/1.4 FLE. I know this part will also fit the 21/3.4 Super-Elmar and would like one for that lens as well.

EDIT: I have just been told it is a spare part and not a sale part, I will ask my spare parts guy.

Thanks in advance :)

It is intended to protect the threads that secure the hood? I wonder why Leica did not include one with each lens if that could be an issue. It is no for me, as I keep the hoods on both my 21 and 35.

Are you sure Leica did not do it? I seem to recall than both my 35/2.5 and 24/3.8 had a ring like that in the box but i may be wrong.

I will look this evening and report back. I basiclaly just take the lens out and put the case back in the box and store it.

It's a narrow metal ring in black satin finish. It comes with all new 35mm FLE lenses. Unlike the Leica hoods and lens caps, there is no part number marked on it. If you bought the lens new, you will have one. Otherwise the previous owner may not have included it.

Mine was underneath a foam pad with a circular cutout at its centre which is shaped the same as the lens hood, and located at the bottom of the lens case. If you remove this you will see a circular lens cap, and attached to this is the ring.

Mine too. I am currently not at home, but the manual included with the lens should list the part number of that ring.

Must be the same with the 24/3.8 then. The ring fits on the latter but not when it has a filter on contrary to the 35/1.4 FLE. I'll check this when i am back home.

I have found that with my 35 FLE I have to put the ring on before the filter.

The ring from the FLE fits on the 21/3.4, a filter is then able to be screwed on.

Tried this on the 24/3.8 with two E46 Leica filters, to no avail. Slimmer filters could perhaps fit though i don't know.

BTW just realized that the 35/1.4 FLE's and 24/3.8's hoods look exactly the same and seem to be usable on both lenses interchangeably. Curious that they don't have the same order number though (12464 & 12465).

The B+W F-pro filters fit inside the hood, but with either (both on the 35 and 21) have to remove the filter, screw on the protector ring, then re-attach the filter.

The hood for the 21/3.4 is the same as the 35/1.4FLE and 24/3.8, but shares a part number (12465) with the 24/3.8.

Just curious if others that have the 21 3.4 received the thread protector ring with their lens. I guess I bought mine last April and it did not have one. No clue if it was intended to have one.

I didn't get the thread protector with my 21/3.4, I don't see anywhere in the packaging for it to go so I don't think they intended to include one.

Mine are 12464 (24/3.8) and 12465 (35/1.4 FLE) curiously.

I just checked and both of mine are 12465 :)

This is precisely my experience with B+W's normal (ie non-slim) filters on the FLE; the hood can be screwed on over the filter but not the protection ring.

I think in another thread it was mentioned that the 35FLE hood design was slightly altered to allow fitting over a filter in situ. This may account for the different numbers. Perhaps there was no need to modify the thread protector as it would be attached before the filter.

Pete
