I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and share with you a very interesting phenomenon. What appears to be an O Ring is showing up in such a frightening way right in the middle of the lens, but what is amazing is that it could not be detected in the photos unless I go above f8, otherwise it is as though it was not there. That, I did not know.

I bought it from B&H and it is on it's way back to them, meanwhile they had one in stock so I bought that until I get a refund..... I hope:confused:

It is a very beautiful lens. But my poor credit card.

I must say I find it incredible that it got boxed up at the factory. Are you sure this was a new lens?

Once i opened the box of a brand new summicron m 35mm in the shop of a reputable dealer and the diaphragm was bent as if someone had is finger gone through it.

It was looking like a tulip flower.

Was done obviously before the glass parts where installed on both sides and passed all controls (or lack of)

Thank you all, I am in the habit of taking a video of the unboxing of such expensive items and it seems Erik is really close in his analogy.

I received the lens on 18 Dec 2012 with S/N 4172866. The lens is used on Sony NEX 7 & 6 until the New M is out.

As I came to move the aperture ring it was stuck, with some (not a lot) force it was freed. Indicating that the lens was assembled and tightened when some part of the lens was not properly seated. Few days later the O Ring comes unseated from its resting place. The lens was set to aperture f8 from the factory.

This means that after the lens was assembled it was put directly in the box. Perhaps the high prices of Leica lenses being due to additional and rigorous quality control, is a myth.

I chose a photo which was taken at f1.4 in the local fish market to show you all, that the only area where this gigantic thick line across the lens actually shows, is in the out of focus circles of light. So yes, sending a lens to be cleaned because of 30 or so clearly visible dust specs is not necessary at all.
