Tick-tock DMR

My DMR has started producing a ticking sound from time to time, which even goes one for a while after being switched off. Has anybody else had this strange phenomena?

My R8/DMR has done that for years. When I put in a new battery I had to turn the camera on and then off. Then it usually stops. It's like the camera is not completely turned off.

The R9/DMR combo doesn't.

If it could get fixed it would be nice. But I have learned to live with it.

Jaap -

I tried to copy you on a PM to a member yesterday but it would not go through - Your mailbox is full.

Strange, about 100 messages left and I am still receiving messages from other members.

No. No electronic repairs are possible any more.

What a shame, the IQ of DMR is awesome, especially the color, I assume the DMR is better than M9 in color rendition, my Summilux 50 E60 has been sitting in the closet for a long long time...

That puts more pressure on me to crystallize my replacement strategy.

Upon reading the thread subject at first I thought you meant by "Tick-Tock DMR" that the DMR was ticking down for its final explosion just before the new M becomes available.

Jaap:

I had asked Leica about DMR repairs a few week ago and they can do physical repairs, switches and etc, but if there are problems with the circuit boards, they have no replacements.

This is part of the reason that over the last few years that Justin Stailey of Leica USA dissuaded me from the purchase of a DMR and he suggested that I wait, of course, that would no be for the purchase of the upcoming M camera.

No question buying a DMR after it was discontinued is financially risky. OTOH I'm still delighted with the image quality it produces. If I had waited instead for the M solution the photos I've made would not have been the same. IMHO it was money well spent.

Rich:

You have to remember that some of us got many years of trouble free use out of our DMR. A couple years agonwhen you asked about this the DMR was already over five years old and any sane camera representative would not suggest a purchase of such old technology.
