boxing_cam Posted November 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had my M8 for a little over two weeks. I am certain why I state that its the first piece if non essential technology I haven't regretted purchasing. I absolutely love it. I've learned mounds about range focusing, composition and framing. Shooting on the go is so much more fun and people are a lot more relaxed having their photo taken with a relatively inconspicuous and retro modern looking camera. I recieved the camera with around 8000 actuations, in addition, the lens is over 40 years old but the sharpness is exceptional and it is so fun to use. Couldn't recommend this camera, more. Get one now while the prices on bodies and lenses are right.
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Hi boxing_cam, Take a look here A word of praise for the M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
eprom Posted December 8, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2012 Yes, you are so right! I own my M8 since two years and never regretted buying it. I´m so bored of those discussion how bad the M8 is. I own the M9 since two months now and see the only advantage in FF and higher res. But to be honest, I did never need a higher res until now. I would sell the M8 only to get the new M. Best, Peter__
iedei Posted December 8, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2012 the M8 is a wonderful camera, indeed. Enjoy it in fine health!
ray*j*gun Posted December 9, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2012 I also am a new M8 user/buyer and its been a wonderful experience. I am however concerned about the display issue that I just read about and how it might impact its longevity.
jaapv Posted December 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 9, 2012 There are not that many displays that fail and Leica has a decent program in place. If I were you I would simply forget about it and enjoy shooting.
farnz Posted December 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2012 In my opinion the whole 'failing LCD' issue has been overblown. As Jaap points out there are very few confirmed cases of LCDs failing catastrophically and you'd probably get similar odds on being run over while crossing the road. But you still cross the road regularly. Pete.
lct Posted December 10, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's just when they happen to you that issues become a problem, as usual. Touch wood M8 users but remove your cam from the table when you drink coffees folks, don't push your luck too far.
farnz Posted December 10, 2012 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2012 It's just when they happen to you that issues become a problem, as usual. ... As long as one doesn't worry so much about it being 'you' that it interferes with enjoying the M8. Pete.
1joel1 Posted December 11, 2012 Share #9 Posted December 11, 2012 It was very difficult to give up my R-d1, but I did sell it to help fund the M8. Wow, I never looked back. But, that being the case, I will not use the M8 to fund an M9 or M-E. I will have to save and save for the upgrade since I do want FF and higher resolution. With M9 prices falling, moreso when the M arrives, I might not have to wait too much longer than late next year. Joel
HWMueller Posted December 20, 2012 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2012 I have both the M9-P and my M8.2. I use the M8.2 for everday shooting and love the results. I did have a problem with the screen but Leica repaired it without charge. I had a few blank spots and would have been ok. As someone else mentioned sometimes I don't need the higher resolution so I work at ease with the M8. I set the screen as B/W, high contrast and not worry about the color. You really can not judge color from those little screens anyway. I use Lightroom 4 for my post processing. Still love my M3 and shoot both film and digital. There is something magical about film, real and seductive. Keep in the good light, Harry

Peter_S Posted December 26, 2012 Share #14 Posted December 26, 2012 Sold my M8 a year ago, for several reasons (focus on film, sensor dust, shutter noise, money). But then - I just got myself a black M8.2, they are just too damn good...
jaapv Posted December 26, 2012 Share #15 Posted December 26, 2012 Six years later, mine is still going strong and has its place beside MM and M9 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/266432-wind-nose.html#post2267951
jazzwave Posted January 1, 2013 Share #16 Posted January 1, 2013 I still keep Black M8 and skip M9......next target: MM. Never get problem with M8...I'm happy M8 user ~ron~
Photoskeptic Posted January 1, 2013 Share #17 Posted January 1, 2013 I never had a problem with my M8 and only sold it after three years because of the shutter issue and what I perceived (at the time) was the high replacement cost. One thing that cannot be over-emphasized about the M8 is how the files can be blown up all out of proportion to the 10.2 mp sensor. I found I missed the shooting experience of the M8 so much I purchased an M8.2. Happy New Year everyone and may your photography become more appreciated by those around you. Lax Jought Posted January 3, 2013 Share #18 Posted January 3, 2013 Bought my M8.2 off eBay a couple of years ago, never had a problem with it, still working fine almost 18,000 shots later.
