Ando7777 Posted November 17, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I recently purchased this M8 upgrade and was told by the seller that it had a solid screen protector on it. But from what I can see it doesn't appear to have a screen protector on it. Is any one able to say if it looks like the standard screen without a protector. Sorry for the poor picture quality it was taken with an iPhone. Thanks Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted November 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2012 Welcome to the forum. The thinner screen protectors are visible to the naked eye in my experience. You will see better with or w/o a magnifier than we can through a smart phone anyway. tobey bilek Posted November 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2012 It is impossible to get a screen protector on so it can not be detected. First it has to be cut properly to size, then it has to be stuck on location perfectly, and lastly I have never seen one perfectly clear. I might be upgraded with the sapphire glass screen rather than the stock plastic. It sounds like glass if you tap it rather than plastic, it is shinny like glass, and far more robust. I put a glass Gillotos screen over my M8, was a Christmas present last year, the protector, not the M8.. It adds a mm of thickness so you can see it. I put a cell phone protector screen on the M9P which already had the glass screen because the glass is pretty vulnerable to my nose grease. The protector I "clean" with my thumb. Still in the experimentation stage with it. All the Nikons got a protector from Palm Pilot cut to size and a few I had to splice.
Bill W Posted November 21, 2012 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2012 From my experience with film screen protectors, they were all detectable because they were about to come off. There appear to be no protection on your camera's screen. My M9 has a Giotto's on it and works great.
Luke_Miller Posted November 21, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 21, 2012 Perhaps the upgrade included the sapphire LCD cover, which is one of the options.
jevidon Posted January 13, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 13, 2013 The M8u modification has a sapphire screen cover and is scratch proof. Before I had my M8 converted to M8u, I purchased a schott glass screen cover on Ebay for well under $20. It had an adhesive strip around the out side and the glass cover left an air gap between it and the LCD screen. I worked great and I didn't have to worry about air bubbles and the like with the stick-on plastic covers which degrade the clarity of the LCD. marknorton Posted January 13, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M8u upgrade allowed you to choose which combination of the 3 options - shutter upgrade, screen cover upgade and framelines upgrade - you wanted. So even if it is an M8u, there's no guarantee it has the sapphire screen. To check, look very closely along the bottom edge in the centre. If you see a tiny etched diamond shape, it's a sapphire screen. Both my M8u's and my M9-P have this, my M9 does not. If you do have a sapphire screen, you do not need to worry about a screen protector.
