Greetings! I'm Matt Stevens... My grandfather taught me photography - how to use a camera, develop film  and make prints in darkroom. It's been many years since I shot with film. I always thought of Leica as unobtainable, but my love of making monochrome images drove me to buy a Q2M while my wife was in Germany for 6 weeks - in a moment of weakness while she was absent is what I told her. The Q2M has become my favorite camera.

Details about me:

I live in Northern California.
I am retiring from public service at the end of the year.
I'm starting a commercial photography business focusing on railroad construction, transit operations and events after leaving my current job as a communications manager.
I play in a rock band.
Travel in Europe once or twice a year (my wife is German).

I love to photograph abstracts, people, landscapes and ordinary stuff.
My photographic ethos is to make interesting, compelling photographs, shoot interesting, compelling subjects.

Cheers!

Matt

Welcome Matt. Sounds like your retirement will be busier than your working life. :D

Thanks!

My current job requires me to be on call whenever trains are running, so I can never really fully relax, unless I arrange to go off the grid. I don't want stop working though... just dial it back and try to live the creative life of playing music in a band, doing photography and traveling with my wife.

Hello Matt,

Welcome to the Forum.

Among other places you might find "Fascination Eisenbahn" in the "Technik & Industrie" section of the German language part of the Forum interesting.

The German Language Forum is NOT a translation of this "International" part of the Forum. The German Language section is its own separate section with similar categories to those here in this section.

All people can freely participate in either, or both, sections.

Here, on the "International Forum" there is "Locomotives And Trains Around The World And In Your Area"  in the "Technology & Industry" section.

There are also similar Threads concerning Airports, Mushrooms, Benches, etc. in other various sections.

Enjoy.

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi! My name is Vivek and I’ve just joined the forum this weekend, having recently got an M-P 240 safari and a voigtlander 50mm nokton 1.5ii that I am loving shooting with. I’ve been photographing with varying intent for about 12 years with Fuji and more recently Sony systems. I’ve joined up mainly to start sharing some images for which I’d welcome feedback, in the street photography section as of now, but have appreciated the wealth of info and skill here before joining, so thanks for that

Hi everyone

Just joined the group as I've ordered a second hand Q2 Monochrome from MPB. Due with me hopefully in the next week.

I've been a keen amateur for the past 45 years or so. Nikon user for all that time.

Always loved mono as I had my own dark room at home for the first 20 years.

Looking forward to hearing any suggestions to get the best out of the Q2.

Thanks for the add.

Declan

After purchasing a Leica M9-P, I created an account here in 2013 and never made a single post! Mostly because I moved abroad and life took many fantastic and interesting turns. I just purchased a SL3 along with a Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24mm and a Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH. My first real adventure with this system will be in Peru next month. I've owned many cameras over the years and the Leica M system followed by the Fujfilm GFX50 and Mamiya 7II have been top of my list.

Good Morning, I am Franz from Gernany. My Leica-journey started with the Xiaomi 15 (yes, not reallyLeica) and with a visit to the Leica Park in Wetzlar, recently. I was deeply impressed and my wish to enlarge my fotography experience (15 years with Fujifilm in the didital world, Minolta before) with an M camera was ignited. And here I am, I bought my M 11 yesterday and the first impressions are amazing. Looking forward to step closer into the Leica system and community.

Greetings, my name is Philip. Originally from Chicago and for now, living in Florida with my wife. Not new to photography but new to Leica after acquiring a IIIg from the original owner. Over the years I have only used Nikon, Hasselblad and Linhoffs so am excited to get to know my IIIg. I'm sure I will have questions and perhaps even answers at some point. I honestly don't know why I waited this long!
