Somebody must have exchanged the mount. Summarits were equipped with Leica M bayonet with 6-bit lens identification bar code for digital M cameras.
I would definitely stay away.

That's the  most likely explanation - easy to change mounts.

Condition:

The lens is not coded. Everything works perfectly.

I see no reason to buy such a lens then. Coded copies are available for less at German dealers on e**y. Here for instance.

Ebay? Etsy?

Is that meant to be funny or ironic?

Many people don’t like using eBay in full and use a form that most people know. I don’t know why, and I’m not one of them

As far as I know, no one has any problem like that with Etsy.

There is no need to try to be clever about this.

I have several non Leica lenses and gave up trying to paint in codes many years ago. My work flow is like this, chose the closest Leica code and set it manually in camera, With M11 cameras you can limit the number of codes available. When the images are in the computer I use Lens Tagger (free download) to get the correct name for the lens and then later you can use lens correction if you want, but remember that it destroys your image at high ISO.

In LrC does not have profiles for all M lenses, for example Elmarit-M 28 v4, therefore I don’t know what is the benefit to code it.

When I import files into LrC, only profile for Elmarit-M 28 ASPH and Summicron 28 ASPH are available from selection but corrections ( distortion and vignette) it apply are not matching for the characters of Elmarit-M 28 V4.

Your lens could have been made between 2016 and 2019 according to this site:
https://www.summilux.net/numeros/index.php
If it looks like the lens below, it would be a Summicron-M 50/2, optical version 4, commercial version 5, order # 11826.
Happy snaps 🙂

Okay, I should know the answer to these questions, but I don't, so I'm asking here.

I use an M10-R. I dropped it a while ago, and the screen and Visoflex no longer work (although the rest of the camera is fully functional). I have no way of changing the settings that were dialed in when I dropped it. But it's my main camera and I still use it every day.

The way the camera is currently set up, all non-coded lenses appear as the WATE—the Tri-Elmar 16-18-21. I only have one non-coded lens, a Light Lens Lab 35mm 8-element collapsible. When I import photos taken with this lens into Lightroom CC, the lens corrections are automatically applied, and the images have weird wavy distortion. So I just uncheck the box ("Enable Lens Corrections"), and the distortion goes away. With the box unchecked, the images from this lens look fine.

I'm contemplating buying a couple of relatively inexpensive non-coded lenses, like the Voigtlander 24mm f/3.5 and 75mm f/1.5. If I use these lenses, and then uncheck the "Enable Lens Corrections" box, will the images turn out all right? And what if I select the lens-correction profiles for a 21mm and 75mm lens? Does it make sense to do that?

Also: is the fact that my camera sees all non-coded lenses as the WATE a problem? Does it in any way rule out the use of non-coded lenses, until I get the camera repaired?

Many thanks for any insights!

If you're using not too old VM and/or ZM lenses they have a groove in the flange for 6-bit coding. Just code them with the code of Leica lenses having similar vignetting and with a little luck your broken camera will recognize the code automatically.

Can you still connect the camera to the Fotos app? I believe you should be able to change setting if you can.

Nope! Without the screen I can’t start the WiFi.

I think it’s abnormal that the camera is thinking even non coded lenses are WATE. Non coded lens mounted should just not be detected with no lens coding selected, but as you say you can uncheck this in Lightroom at least for now. Then you just get what the lens actually is by optical design.

It is normal if the last lens manually selected was a WATE. Been like this since the M9 (or M8?) if memory serve.

I think your are right on that, so with the screen broken there is no way to change it.
