jaapv Posted June 16, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2012 Well, for one thing a 15" Macbook is a bit on the large side to drag with you on an extended trip if you are carrying camera gear as well...

Paul J Posted June 16, 2012 Share #10 Posted June 16, 2012 My retina MBP is already on order. Despite the no user upgradability and glued in battery I still think it's an evolution in notebook design and will offer something of real benefit with the monitor. I've not felt the need to upgrade from my 2006 MBP until now. I think it's the best thing to travel with too. It looks like a perfect mix of size and power. rramesh Posted June 17, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted June 17, 2012 Don't know yet. The retina display consumes more battery and hence Apple has larger batteries on the Pro. This could be challenge on the thinner Airs.
jpattison Posted June 17, 2012 Share #16 Posted June 17, 2012 What about the highly reflective screen? Would this not bother you? John
algrove Posted June 17, 2012 Share #17 Posted June 17, 2012 Some are saying that solving heat dissipation on the new retina airs is the hold-up.
tobey bilek Posted June 17, 2012 Share #18 Posted June 17, 2012 Been reading about this monster. It can not even opened because of proprietary security bolts. RAM is soldered in place and no RAM can be added ever even by Apple. Even the battery is glued into place. So buy it all set up because there is no changing it. The person who did open it graded it the very worst computer ever for repair. The very worst, a new record. I suggest you buy Apple Care if you pop for this machine. *j-w-m* Posted June 18, 2012 Share #19 Posted June 18, 2012 I always buy AppleCare with laptops and it has paid off. At least with this new one the drive should be more shock resistant.
sdai Posted June 18, 2012 Share #20 Posted June 18, 2012 I had a play with the new retina display MacBook pro in a local Apple store today and was very disappointed ... the glare is still very strong at all angles, when compared to a normal MacBook Pro side by side, the reflection is just as bad. The flashy new screen may be attractive to many ordinary folks but certainly isn't good for photographic works.
