lsolum Posted May 10, 2012 Share #82 Posted May 10, 2012 Long and careful reviews with many images. This is a subscription website (as I am sure almost all readers of this forum know). Reid cannot be summarized, but his review of the Monochrom might fairly be characterized as quite positive. Welcome to ReidReviews
schmolinski Posted May 10, 2012 Share #83 Posted May 10, 2012 So after 3 years the X2 has the same LCD as the X1. The LCD was pretty bad when the X1 was first announced but now? Unbelievable. They seem to do as little as possible for as much money as possible. Haha, yes they live the Pareto principle (the 80/20 rule) with for the rich Leica buyers, with minimum effort max bargain Lucky me I already own the M9
mjh Posted May 10, 2012 Share #84 Posted May 10, 2012 What total utter crap a Leica monochrome M? Have you tried it? I have … For the dedicated black and white photographer it is a highly desirable camera.
andybarton Posted May 10, 2012 Share #85 Posted May 10, 2012 Do you have a piece in LFI coming, Michael?
Peter H Posted May 10, 2012 Share #86 Posted May 10, 2012 At least this M9M has some functional differences from the M9. More than could be said for the M9P, which sold well enough simply because it looked nice.
J Mitchum Posted May 10, 2012 Share #87 Posted May 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder how many people will choose the M9 M over the M9? I mean with the super Nik silver efex pro B&W converter do we really need a dedicated B&W M9.Surely the traditional M9 gives you the best of both worlds. Sorry but i don't really see the benefit. Why even bother announcing any new M9 at this point with the M10 right around the corner at Photokina? "The M-Monochrom has the same button layout as the M9 but also sadly has exactly the same disappointing 230,000 dot rear screen. This puts it on a par with contemporary $100 compact cameras. For reference, the first 920,000 dot screens started to appear on DSLRs around 5 years ago". Does Leica have contempt for their customers or are they just lazy? RotarySMP Posted May 10, 2012 Share #88 Posted May 10, 2012 Note the serial number. Looks like only 1000 Mono's are planned.
em9 Posted May 10, 2012 Share #89 Posted May 10, 2012 maybe there will be soon a new plugin for silverefex to simulate the b/w of the M9M... ?!? Or a Nik Colorefex Pro for photos taken by the M9M... "...turn your B&W photos into stunning colors afterall!..." bit like the Laurel & Hardy movies...
lct Posted May 10, 2012 Share #90 Posted May 10, 2012 Do you think 'normal' apps like Photoshop or Silver Efex will work with that sensor?
Phil U Posted May 10, 2012 Share #91 Posted May 10, 2012 Histogram from raw is what I am jealous of. Wish we could have that on the standard m9. The new summicron price is astonishing. The performance of that one will be interesting to see because it has a lot to live up to at that price. Law of diminishing returns I suspect. NZDavid Posted May 10, 2012 Share #92 Posted May 10, 2012 Could somebody possibly please summarize the main points? The main Leica site is incredibly slow to open. It must be overloaded.
delander † Posted May 10, 2012 Share #93 Posted May 10, 2012 I would be interested in the M9-M but I'll have to think very hard about the price. The new Summicron has fantastic MTF curves, significantly better than the existing Summilux. To get the best out of the M9-M perhaps you will also have to buy the new Summicron. As usual Leica have produced two very desirable products at very high prices. Jeff
mongrelnomad Posted May 10, 2012 Share #94 Posted May 10, 2012 I was a bit dubious, but the photos from the M9-M on the Leica site are frankly astonishing. If those are direct from-the-camera without any tricks, I may even be tempted. I haven't seen b+w photography with that much depth and 'soul' since the days of Tri-X. andybarton Posted May 10, 2012 Share #95 Posted May 10, 2012 Could somebody possibly please summarize the main points? The main Leica site is incredibly slow to open. B&W M9. £6300 50 Summicron ASPH £7000 X2 with EVF
Luke_Miller Posted May 10, 2012 Share #96 Posted May 10, 2012 Sean Reid reports 1.5 stops better high ISO performance out of the Monochrom plus it significantly out resolved his M9. Got to count for something.
earleygallery Posted May 10, 2012 Share #97 Posted May 10, 2012 I'm delighted that Leica have renewed their links with Hermes to position the M cameras as luxury fashion items. Leica were looking worryingly credible as a serious photographic business for a while!
dchalfon Posted May 10, 2012 Share #98 Posted May 10, 2012 i think i will buy a M6 with a couple of tri-x rolls...
Jaybob Posted May 10, 2012 Share #99 Posted May 10, 2012 Greater dynamic range, higher ISOs, better B&W. I'm excited. It's exactly what I need. I LOVE B&W. Tina The monochom IS intruiging, and against the grain, I will give them that. It's not what I personally wanted, but it's like they were thinking of you. You must be very happy. As a side, your work is beyond impressive, really great stuff. Jay
gbealnz Posted May 10, 2012 Share #100 Posted May 10, 2012 We're too far away David, unfortunately. Seems not many are happy, such is the payback for months of hype and speculation. Can't please all of the people all of the time. Gary
