Visit Stephen Gandy's website for his shop (link below) and you can get a full rundown of the various CV lenses ever made, the rangefinder accessories cv makes, and the various cameras CV has come out with. There is also a treasure trove of general Rangefinder Info to be found there, as well.

I own the 28mm f1.9 Ultron and 75mm f2.5 Color Ultron lenses for use with my M8.

These two are earlier CV lenses and were made to the Leica M39 Screw Mount standard -but- work 100% Fine with No Compromise of ability or function via the use of standard Screw Mount to M bayonet Mount adapters. The newer CV lenses are made to the Leica M bayonet lens mount standard and therefore don't need adapters.

fyi: CV=Cosina Voigtlander

Cosina is the Japanese Maker of most of the Zeiss Rangefinder lenses and most of the Zeiss SLR lenses, too. Voigtlander is a brand name they bought &/or licensced a few years back to use for RF and SLR equipment and lenses they make for themselves to sell.

I highly reccomend them as a way to explore focal lengths and abilities without committing vast capital to acquiring Leica Glass to do so.

Ciao Ming Rider, in fact i thought this lens for my M8, but which filter (UV/IR) you use with it?

B/W i suppose...

Giacomo

The B+W 486 UV/IR filter is well made and very popular, as well as the Leica-supplied one.

Much has been written here about this; a search will return more posts that you can read...

Regards, Jim

I just took delivery of the 25/4 yesterday for my M8.

Yes, either the B&W or the Leica UV/IR filter are fine.

I chose the Leica, #13410. Regardless, you are looking for an E39 size for either the original LTM or the M mount versions of this little jewel.

Salute Giacomo. Yes I used the B&W UV/IR and then put this on the CV 35mm f2.5 when I sold the 25mm f4 (wish I hadn't sold it :-(

I bought a 25 4.0 because it was screw mount for the 111f. It is now my "35" semi wide on the M8. You need one that brings up 35 mm lines in the M8 or a screw mount adapter that does if you get a screw mount one, which by the is scale focus, not RF coupled.

The 15 is fine the M8 with slight cyan corners. Cornerfix will repair as will the vignette control in photoshop ACR. You will need a 21 finder for use on M8.

I have both lenses plus several other CV Voigtlander lenses. The 25mm is excellent but due to the f4 size it is only usable for good lighting situations. The 15 mm is o.k. but for the price it worthwhile. My two favorite CV Voigtlander lenses are the 35mm f1.7 Ultron as a good all around shooter and the f1.2 35mm Nokton which is sensational.

A better all around lens is the Leica f2.8 28mm tele Elmarit. I have the version 4 which is much sharper and has slightly higher contrast than the prior versions and used in E+ condition is really not all that expensive.

Enjoy your M8. It's a great camera and even better if you send it in for the shutter and viewfinder upgrades.

Is this a typo jevidon?

"Leica f2.8 28mm tele Elmarit"

ie: the 'tele' part.

I know the reverse telephoto invention was a wonderful breakthrough in wide angle lens designs, quite especially for SLRs, but I don't know why it would be in the nomenclature of a Leica M lens. IIRC the only leica lenses with 'tele' in their names are certain 90+mm lenses which are, in fact, telephoto optical names.

Those are reputed to be two quite nice lenses. Both lenses are Very different in character, of course, but both popular choices by the looks of the posts I see.

I hope you share a few images in the M8 Photography thread.

Thank you all for the answers, in the end I bought a Super Elmarit 21mm and a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1, 2, it really surprised me ...

Happy Holidays

Digital photography reveals, very easily, that most of the Voigtländer lenses are inferior to their Leica counterparts. But there are a few exceptions. My favourite Voigtländer lens:CV 15 Super Wide Aspherical. Price/performance is 'remarkable'. The closest Leica alternative is the WATE, costing 5 -6 times as much. Now that it is available in rangefinder coupled version it is a 'must' for all M8 users. - It works not so well on M9, though. Due to the Italian Flag effect. But this is no issue since M8 has a crop factor sensor. Recommendable.

I have both a Leica 24mm Elmarit and a Voigtlander 25mm f4 lens and I find that the Leica lens gives both a better image and is easier to use as the printing of aperture and distance is much clearer. Suggest you check on these before purchasing.

Good luck.

Giacomo,

Congrat with your 21 and 35, For me 21mm (equvalent to 28mm) is perfect lens for M8. Wide and not too hard to do composition, I don't like to do croping in post processsing

Also 35mm on M8 feel like 50mm due to 1.3x crop factor.

I'm using Skopar 21/4 and Nokton 35/1.4..and happy

I love my M8 with 21mm... it's amazing for what I like to do which is conventional street photography, as well as more Bruce Gilden aesthetic of photography. Everything on the first two pages of my Flickr page right now (except two shots) is with my CV21 f/4.5.

You are welcome to check it out...
