Ken Abrahams Posted February 17, 2023 Share #5662  Posted February 17, 2023 Hello, I found this page courtesy of Michael G after starting a Train page on the English side of the Forum. I have a love for Train Photography and capture local and interstate Trains in my local area. I live in Australia and and a place called Midland where freight and passenger trains pass through daily. I tend to create Train images that have a glamorous or sometimes surreal look. I also produce standard images which I post on sites frequented by Rail employees and drivers in Australia. I don't think I am a frenetic "rail fan" but a Photographer with passion for seeking out specific trains and image making in general. This image is a favourite train, The  Indian Pacific (here 5AP8) comes from the east coast of Australia to the West coast on a weekly basis with Pacific National Locomotives and the NR Class.  Best Ken Welcome, dear visitor! Sonnelacht Posted February 17, 2023 Share #5664 Â Posted February 17, 2023 I suppose the track is suitable for normal gauge and narrow one. Fine picture!

Andreas Thanks Andreas There are narrow and standard gauge widths in Western Australia. There is a bit of history about uniforming of rail gauge across Australia. There are dual lines for national Freight to harbours and terminals and Indian Pacific Passenger train terminating at East Perth Station.  There are three different track gauges in SA. These are: broad gauge at 1600mm width, standard gauge at 1435mm width, and narrow gauge at 1067mm width.
Ken Abrahams Posted February 17, 2023 Share #5666  Posted February 17, 2023 Grain Trains run all year around trying to clear huge annual wheat field harvests. There was quite an extensive rural rail network for wheat transport in Western Australia going back to the early days. Many stations and workers made it a flourishing Railways State however much has been decommissioned in favour for alternate storage and eventual rail cartage to the ships and port silos.   Welcome, dear visitor! Ken Abrahams Posted February 17, 2023 Share #5668  Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Rail First Locomotive C Class leased to Watco. There are GL and CF and GL class locos also involved with this particular Redmine Hampton train which works from a Nickel smelter South of Kalgoorlie. The 20 odd tankers on this train carry a byproduct sulphuric acid from the smelter to the Acid Refinery at Kwinana Port on a daily basis. Its a hard train to capture as the schedules change often and it also gets delayed pending on other traffic. The acid tankers (not seen here) are most interesting to me. The C Class is a thunderous loco when going past. Sorry about my water mark on the images, many images have already been posted on social media sites and extreme rail fans tend to copy images for their catalogues.   Welcome, dear visitor! Ken Abrahams Posted February 18, 2023 Share #5669  Posted February 18, 2023 The Prospector passenger Train travels from East Perth Terminal to Kalgoorlie Station every day and has a four car capacity in peak times. There are other services with a similar train model which does intermediary locations on the outskirts of Perth (Avon Link). The Prospector stops midway at Merredin where staff switch trains so that they can shuttle to and from Kalgoorlie and Perth staff return to Perth.
