Michael Geschlecht Posted March 29, 2016 Share #1162 Posted March 29, 2016 Hello Stuart, OK, lets give it a try. Hello Wally, Does this building have something to do either with very large marbles or with movies?Best Regards, Michael
war Posted March 29, 2016 Share #1163 Posted March 29, 2016 Hi Michael. No, nothing to do with large marbles. While nearly everything in LA has something to do with movies, this building would be useful in any city.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 30, 2016 Share #1164 Posted March 30, 2016 Hello Wally, Could this be a water works? A water works can be useful in most Cities. Best Regards, Michael
war Posted March 30, 2016 Share #1165 Posted March 30, 2016 Hi Michael. Not a water works or a sewage plant nor a concrete plant, grain elevator or anything to do with materials handling. And further, it's not an industrial building of any kind.
stuny Posted March 30, 2016 Share #1166 Posted March 30, 2016 Perhaps a museum.
war Posted March 31, 2016 Share #1167 Posted March 31, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ah, closer now. Not a museum but it is an institutional building.
spylaw4 Posted March 31, 2016 Share #1168 Posted March 31, 2016 Institutional, but not a museum? How about a Town Hall ( district administration)?
war Posted April 1, 2016 Share #1169 Posted April 1, 2016 Thanks Stuart and Brian for joining in. I really didn't intend for this to be difficult. Yes it is an institutional building but not a museum. Not a town hall or an administrative building but it is a facility governed by and part of a "district". As stated earlier, the building was designed by a high profile Austrian architect, and is across the highway from another significant LA building by a well known Spanish architect. Michael Hiles Posted April 1, 2016 Share #1178 Posted April 1, 2016 Hello Gordon, You are right - it is Florence. But I wonder if someone wants to research the specific building. It is one of the better known buildings in the city. Definitely not obscure.
lucerne Posted April 1, 2016 Share #1179 Posted April 1, 2016 Michael I will be able to give the background when I get a chance to go back over my travel files. Instantly recognisable to me, but the building name escapes me. Someone else might know. I'm going to put another image up for identification. Completely different location. Here goes. lucerne Posted April 1, 2016 Share #1180 Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) Hello Gordon, You are right - it is Florence. But I wonder if someone wants to research the specific building. It is one of the better known buildings in the city. Definitely not obscure. Michael.Your mystery image is of the Bargello museum in Florence. On a very wet day, I found it rather Non-descript from the exterior, but it has impressive features inside. Now the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. One of Italy's most important sculpture museums. Building created around 1250 as a fortress and landmark. Later (1261) used as the headquarters of the podestra, - the neutral city officer responsible for law and order. in 1502 it became a prison, and a law court. In 1859 the first Italian national museum was established here. Sculptures on display include examples by Michelangelo and others from the 14th to 16th century.
