david strachan Posted April 25, 2016 Share #971 Posted April 25, 2016 We've got two threads going on M8 images... "Still loving the M8" "M8 Photographs...Post them Here" They are essentially showing the same stuff, and I wonder if we should ask the mods to combine the two??? Any thoughts...tick "thanks" for agreement. Just trying to make it easier...

Post them Here" - when using the M8 as "normal" digital camera - and "Still loving the M8" - if one uses the M8 as a vintage camera, although there are now much more powerful successors. There is no difference between the two and considering the M8 forum in general is not very active, makes sense to combine.
Bill Livingston Posted April 25, 2016 Share #975 Posted April 25, 2016 Maybe it isn't the most active forum... but it certainly consistently seems to provide some of the very best photos on here (along with the SL and Q forums...) Maybe it is because users of these cameras are more interested in actually taking pictures than talking incessantly about their M's...

Maybe it is because users of these cameras are more interested in actually taking pictures than talking incessantly about their M's... I think one of the problems Bill is that there isn't an easy place to post M-P, M240 or M262 photos. There's no equivalent of 'Post your M8 photos here'. I was thinking that yesterday as I was looking for an appropriate place to show some photos from my new M-P. Does it need a mod to start a thread like that? Bill Livingston Posted April 25, 2016 Share #977 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) I think you are right Ernst, to a degree anyway. Although please note that my original post was very much tongue in cheek.. Although having said that, there does seem to be a much higher percentage of technical posts, or posts either moaning about or defending aspects of the M's design... which makes me sometimes think that a large percentage of M users are more 'product orientated' than 'photography orientated' (again, an observation I will no doubt get a lot of grief about... ). It just seems to me, that anyone looking in here without having spent a lot of time looking into Leica, could easily leave thinking the M users are very much into the politics of the rangefinder, the 'ethos' of the M camera and a desire to keep it as it is, or in most cases, to make it like it 'used to be' at the cost of almost anything... even arguing about film or digital from the same perspective... whereas those outside that influential and vocal group, the M8 users, the Q users and the SL users just get on and take photographs... They are the least 'political' forums on the board. I would love a 'I love my M' picture thread where we could post photo's, enjoy our cameras and keep all the noise and unwelcome and unnecessary opinion elsewhere... Northgate Posted May 15, 2016 Share #980 Posted May 15, 2016 Life can be complicated the Leica M8 is simple. An iconic iteration of a classic piece of mid century design. It is beautifully made, really solid yet precise and elegant at the same time. Rangefinders aren't for everyone but to me there is great calm and simplicity in the mechanical link between the focus mechanism and the lens. I like to make the comparison with high end hifi where there is often only an on off switch and a volume control. The focus is on the clearest path between the recording and the listener. It may be a 10 year old camera but mine works well and the raw DNG files are great to work with.
