Wayne Posted July 29, 2016 Share #1021 Posted July 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the series paulmac. Re: #1041, It is amazing how modern signage- the result of so many hours of, marketing, technical , and visual arts effort- seems so out of place, when presented against the elegance of older buildings. That, in itself, could be a great project.

Chubkins Posted July 30, 2016 Share #1022 Posted July 30, 2016 Just purchased an M8. Can't wait. Any recommendations for a proper IR filter?
Ernstk Posted July 30, 2016 Share #1023 Posted July 30, 2016 Just purchased an M8. Can't wait. Any recommendations for a proper IR filter? Welcome to M8 ownership. The B+W 486 is a pretty good filter and is cheaper than the Leica equivalent. For black and white photography with the M8 I wouldn't use the IR filter. You'll get better results without it. pico Posted July 30, 2016 Share #1024 Posted July 30, 2016 We can look back to the complaints regarding the M8 in its time and enjoy today! I suspect Leica regrets the M8 enormous success. .

I think I'm just going to use it as a dedicated B&W camera so I'll forego the filter for now.
Ernstk Posted July 30, 2016 Share #1026 Posted July 30, 2016 Great. I think I'm just going to use it as a dedicated B&W camera so I'll forego the filter for now. That's a good call! Many of us on here think that the M8 still produces some of the best B&W images of all the digital M models...

CranberryFotografie Posted July 31, 2016 Share #1028 Posted July 31, 2016 I agree with the b-w capabilities. As promised one more picture. This one taken with the 28mm summicron that was lended to me for a few hours! Felt right at home with 28mm on the m8 as I am a 35mm shooter with film (hence the 35mm voigtländer). I choose to use JPEGs with different presets. I enjoy the way the files turn out and can control the noise-level by adjusting the ISO. Only on sunny days. In the night that choice is taken from me. But I do like files I get with 1000 ISO. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted July 31, 2016 Share #1030 Posted July 31, 2016 Welcome to M8 ownership. The B+W 486 is a pretty good filter and is cheaper than the Leica equivalent. For black and white photography with the M8 I wouldn't use the IR filter. You'll get better results without it. Ernst Ernst, sure you remember Peter Karbe's reading, which we attended at Leitz Park Wetzlar. He called an impairment of a photo by using a UV / IR filter only of theoretical physical interest and without further concern for the quality of an image. Since then the UV / IR filter remain on the M lenses when using the M8, even if the intention is to produce black and white images. The handling is much more practical, operational readiness is guaranteed faster, the front optics of lenses are better protected and if afterwards a colored DNG should be preferred, the correct UV / IR filter was fortunately screwed.
