Lenshacker Posted December 10, 2014 Share #683 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Can you recommend an adaptor? I've been using the Fotodiox adapters, run $25 to $50 or so depending on the mount. I've been "hacking" RF couplings for lenses, mostly from aluminum tubes from old tripod legs and retaining rings from junk lenses. Pipe cutter to get an approximate length, then "grind and polish" to get the length to work. Canon 50/1.4, now RF Coupled Canon 50/1.4 FL minolta2 L1015305 Why? fun lenses for about $75 each, including the adapters. I was stationed not too far from there but at the time I had no idea what a Leica was.
Michael A. Marcus Posted December 11, 2014 Share #685 Posted December 11, 2014 Yes, I am! To me (mid- 60's, amateur, taking pictures for half a century) the two (duplicate) mere jpegs from my 2007 M8 with 35/2 asph look "more than good enough." I made a few subjective adjustments. I do not claim that they're great photos! And the duplicate B&W of Hank is a conversion done in iPhoto, nothing fancy. Wasn't shooting M8 in B&W mode that day. For the shot of the leaves and the asphalt, no adjustments, and it's RAW. PS I'll be using my M7 in Vienna in January: hope to never have to abandon my Leitz and Zeiss lenses! Posted pics with Voigtlander look great too! Sure, you can't beat high quality prints from film and chrome, medium and larger formats. But really, isn't most of what it's all about in the eye of the photographer and the beholder? Even if what they're viewing is on a monitor? for the Leica forum Dec 10 2014: Photo Images by Michael Marcus Photography - photo.net
T44ISKN Posted December 12, 2014 Share #686 Posted December 12, 2014 My "new" m8.2 is now the only camera I own (having sold everything else to fund it). I'll be uploading my endeavours to Flickr. Here's one from a recent trip to Cambodia. Converted to mono using Silver Efex. Thanks for looking!

To share a flickr image, just paste the BBCode which you'll find in the "Share" box on your flickr page. Cheers JM Welcome, dear visitor! Bill Livingston Posted December 12, 2014 Share #689 Posted December 12, 2014 T44... I followed the link and saw your Flikr pages... Some fabulous shots on there... You have a good eye and a natural feel for composition. Your photos on your earlier cameras go to show that it is the photographer and not the equipment that really matters... But your M8 shots have a 'feel' to them that's hard to quantify...you are responding to the camera like a natural. Lovely to see... and congratulations on your M8. kertong Posted December 30, 2014 Share #694 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Hey everyone! New member here, I enjoyed this thread so much it got me to sign up and post! Quick history - I fell in love with rangefinders after renting an M8.2 from a shop with a few leica lenses. I'm not professional by any means - just a hobbyist, and learned on shooting a few prosumer compacts, an olympus e10, and a panny DMC-L1. But with the M8.2 I rented, the image quality was astounding as expected, but more than that, I loved the mechanical feel and involvement required in taking a photo. It was like driving a stickshift car, or using a straight razor. Intimate and rewarding. I was really sad once the rental period expired and I had to return the camera - so I spent some time scouring craigslist and found an epson R-D1 in excellent condition from a famous photographer here in san francisco. Absolutely loved that camera and still miss it today - but after shooting with it for about an year, I finally traded it in for my first Leica M8 (chrome, pictured with the 40mm summicron-c 6bit coded and milled flange, mounted; 15mm voigtlander, and the 28mm voigtlander ultron): After another year with that rig, I sold it to help pay for an engagement ring (also sold my magnepans and jolida tube amps - sad day). Anyways, we've been happily married for 5 years now, and for this x-mas my wife bought me a leica M8 body, this time in black (only 640 actuations, 90 day warranty): It's SO nice to be back - it is like falling in love all over again. I went out and bought a 50mm summicron type 4, but it had some serious backfocus issues at wide open + close range, so I returned it to the shop. Replaced it with a 35mm summarit-m which has really surprised me, and also bought a 35mm biogon f/2 (but that one is going back) - but also, I just won an ebay auction to be reunited with my favorite lens - the 40mm summicron-c! Just had to share - super happy to be back in the leica M8 world. Edited December 30, 2014 by kertong

kertong Posted December 30, 2014 Share #696 Posted December 30, 2014 One more, but shots from the chrome M8 I previously had. I'll shut up now - I'm just too excited to have an M8 again!
