Jeff S Posted April 28, 2013 Share #241 Posted April 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The language suggested more of a mistress situation than a dual marriage; legality is usually not the problem. I've been following your M8.2 and M240 experiences, given that many of our thoughts on the M8.2 are similar. I'll eventually do my own tests with the new M, but I prefer to let others wade through the early adoption phase. Jeff

Brave but not foolhardy. The mistress will still be appealing hopefully.
andym911 Posted May 1, 2013 Share #243 Posted May 1, 2013 After getting the coffee stain issue I played with the idea of trading in for an M9.. What a foolish thought....decided to just shoot instead of worrying about stupid cosmetic issues... here today with an old 50 cron.... gotta love the M8.2 ANDY Welcome, dear visitor! iedei Posted May 4, 2013 Share #245 Posted May 4, 2013 the M8 is SO good at B&W that lately i have been just putting it in JPG mode and turning on high-contrast. It's turned into a lo-budget Monochrom!!! This photo has pretty much everything wrong with it...it is overexposed, the man is out of focus.....but for some reason i LOVE this photo. lol. strange, right? w/ Summicron 40. desu Posted May 4, 2013 Share #246 Posted May 4, 2013 I shoot RAW but I noticed as well that I convert over 50% of my photographs to B/W. And I like it! The good thing about B/W is that you don't have to worry about chromatic aberrations, moire or color noise. Which is why I am not scared to use ISO 2500 if I need to. tobey bilek Posted June 16, 2013 Share #257 Posted June 16, 2013 Thanks for your ideas! Unfortunately I have ruled nearly all of them out already: - the lines appear in both Aperture & ACR - they are nearly invisible before any PP, but my b&ws are quite conservative so it shouldn't be a problem, and most certainly it hasn't been a problem before. - this happens with at least with my 21mm Elmarit as well as 50mm Zeiss, not sure about the 35. - the lines seem to affect bright (and possibly blue?) areas (sky), so I doubt the lens cap test will reveal anything, but will give it a go. And before anyone asks other usual but irrelevant things: - no, it's not the memory card - no, it's not the battery either. . Oh well, it's a fantastic day, I'll try to go hunt some photos and see what turns up in those. Try to download from a different reader, use a different USD chord/port, or directly from the camera, and to a different computer. I have seen lines from all the above being defective
andym911 Posted June 21, 2013 Share #258 Posted June 21, 2013 After my previous enthusiasm my M8.2 died againrecently and no coaching, changing of batteries etc would bring it back to life...just the flashing red light which I have written about before... So actually I have changed my mind and just received a demo unit M9P ...I will send the M8 back for repair and keep it but a pity it can be a bit moody sometimes.. best andy
Marac Posted June 22, 2013 Share #259 Posted June 22, 2013 I love the M8, I now have some filters for 2 of my lenses so I can finally shoot in colour but to be honest I shoot mostly B&W anyway and prefer the IR leakage 'glow' that it gives. I find people tend to pixel peed and search for faults rather than just going out and shooting. The IR issue is a flaw, well, the M8, with its flaws, produces excellent B&W that my MM cannot replicate. so I would say, 'it's not a flaw but a bonus'. AshNZ Posted July 10, 2013 Share #260 Posted July 10, 2013 Its been about 1.5 years with the M8 now, while it is a compromise at times, I'm still loving it. Half Moon Caye by p.60/128, on Flickr
