SiOnara Posted June 20, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted June 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) +1Maybe a lenses numbered list, instead of names will, decrease some bytes on firmware size, though Or maybe just pop on a few basic lenses. A least something to use with certain focal lengths.
Advertisement Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi SiOnara, Take a look here Firmware. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted June 20, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 20, 2011 We should get something. If it was only a list extension for new lenses (worst case scenario) that surely wouldn't need Beta testing ? Red edge correction, as in the update for the M9. That’s the most likely candidate, I think.
UliWer Posted June 20, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 20, 2011 From what I've read on this and other forums, the three issues that are at the top of the most wanted list that might possibly be addressed in firmware are:* Lens selection list * Ability to reprogram the Protect button to ISO selection. (#1 for me) * Improved white balance. I think if we get even one of those, we'll be lucky. Well, the M9 has the lens selection list, which was very high on wish lists during the times of the M8. And now? Can you count all the threads in the M9-forum about coding this or that lens, with protests against price increases for coding? And what was the biggest surprise in the new M9-firmware: they say, you can code the 135mm Apo-Telyt now, which has been in the lens selection list since long ago. People are only happy when they have their lenses coded; notwithstanding what they find in the menue. The ISO-button instead of "Protect" makes sense. White balance? I remember Mr. Daniel saying, he would be glad if the white balance of the M9 was as good as for the M8. And think he was right. It was a little bit disappointing that the new firmware for the M9 didn't bring any improvement. Though I can live with the white balance of the M9, but the present version for the M8 is way better. Therefore I don't think you could expect any news from this side. If you are happy without any red edges with the M8 and wide angles, a new firmware won't bring a lot for you. The M8 is a good camera.

Erik Gunst Lund Posted June 22, 2011 Share #30 Posted June 22, 2011 Wow this is nice; the preview is instantly displayed, the in-between low resolution was really annoying and just made the M8 look old and slow, new life has been injected M8u The profiles where not reset... lct Posted June 22, 2011 Share #32 Posted June 22, 2011 Just tested fw 2.014 with Skopar 21/4, IR-cut filter and lens detection off: same cyan shift as fw 2.005 apparently.
fgaasoy Posted June 22, 2011 Share #33 Posted June 22, 2011 I tested new firmware 2.014 with Summicron 2/35 version IV, IR-cut filter and lens detection on. See no changes from firmware 2.005. pictures taken indoor. Will test more lenses in the next few days in the sun. Finn
Guest Ming Rider Posted June 22, 2011 Share #34 Posted June 22, 2011 My, how dissapointing. Seems Leica are more attached to their Protect Button than I first thought. Any idea what the `changes to internal processes` may contain ? Have just run off a few `rolls` and the only noticable difference is that the preview de-pixelates quicker on full zoom. Maybe this is a Leica Technicians idea of a good time? Afterall, they want another £500 for an M9 with no Badge and an engraved top plate. Sour Grapes ?? You Bet
SiOnara Posted June 22, 2011 Author Share #35 Posted June 22, 2011 Hey I just read a rumour that version 2.021.22/6 will have manual lens selection..........
mjh Posted June 22, 2011 Share #36 Posted June 22, 2011 Any idea what the `changes to internal processes` may contain ? Usually that means that the firmware does some things differently (probably more cleanly and elegantly from a developer’s point of view) while it doesn’t result in any changes visible to the user. caparobertsan Posted June 22, 2011 Share #37 Posted June 22, 2011 Hey I just read a rumour that version 2.021.22/6 will have manual lens selection.......... I hope that is true!
mjh Posted June 22, 2011 Share #38 Posted June 22, 2011 The M8 will never get manual lens selection. It’s no use building up expectations before each release of new firmware when these are bound to be disappointed.
ho_co Posted June 22, 2011 Share #39 Posted June 22, 2011 Thank you, Michael; I was just about to post the same thing. We've known since the M9 introduction that it can't be done, so why do these "Well, I still wish it could" posts keep appearing?
framestore Posted June 23, 2011 Share #40 Posted June 23, 2011 I hope that is true! If it's true, it would be reason to buy another M8
