sblitz Posted June 15, 2011 Share #42 Posted June 15, 2011 i have the biogon 21 i have been coding it manually as a 21 pre asph -- should coding be different now?
Double Negative Posted June 15, 2011 Share #43 Posted June 15, 2011 As a shooter of primarily Zeiss ZM and CV lenses, I can't wait to see how this works out with the 2,8/25 (my favorite lens, like, ever) and 4/18 ZMs especially. I'm quite stoked. The 4/21 Color Skopar would be nice too, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

250swb Posted June 15, 2011 Share #45 Posted June 15, 2011 CV 21mm Skopar red edge worse than before with any code. Instead of a gradual shift to red its now a more defined band down the left edge of the image. Steve
Double Negative Posted June 15, 2011 Share #46 Posted June 15, 2011 Oh, HAPPY DAY. Let me explain. I just did a quick test of probably my favorite lens, the 2,8/25 Biogon ZM. I tried wide open at f/2.8 and f/5.6. Because of the framelines it brings up, I have to code it as a 2/28 Summicron ASPH (which isn't the "ideal" setting generally). Before the update, there was some red edging, though not much - still, noticeable - and some vignetting. Post update, the vignetting is almost completely removed, though perhaps a slight trace remains (I don't care, it's wide open and I like vignetting anyway). But the best news is that there's absolutely NO hint of red edging whatsoever! None. I can't wait to give the 4/18 a test as that one has more red edging (and also not ideally coded do to framelines). I'm going to try the 4/21 Color Skopar while I'm at it too, as that would be an extreme test. I'm not holding my breath on this one, but we'll see what happens. CV 21mm Skopar red edge worse than before with any code. Instead of a gradual shift to red its now a more defined band down the left edge of the image. Oooh, now that sucks. I use CornerFix now anyway so I have a feeling I'll continue to do so. I wasn't expecting a miracle with this lens but it would've been nice if it at least remained the same - if for no other reason than not having to create profiles all over again... I'll test with mine and report back.
charlesphoto99 Posted June 15, 2011 Share #47 Posted June 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Playback imo is somewhat better now with new firmware. It seems to draw a bit faster, (though not much) but more important than that it stays purposefully out of focus (pixelated actually) until it snaps into focus. That way there is less confusion as to what is being seen (esp if showing to a second party). And once the full size preview draws there's no more drawing to be done when zooming in. Also much nicer, more realistic playback at hi-iso's. Nice job Leica. Haven't tested wides yet, though it was never really a problem for me before so not really sure what I'd be looking for. Jamie Roberts Posted June 15, 2011 Share #48 Posted June 15, 2011 Just did a full test with the CV 12/5.6 and the new firmware using all lens codes from the manual list from the start up to and including all 35 mm lenses and I found that the best code is still the 11134 (21 f/2.8 non-asph) when it comes to vignetting and colour correction. But strangely enough code 11606 (28/2.8 asph) produces also little discolouration, but quite a bit more vignetting. That's not strange at all.... The 28 f2.8 ASPH also needs some color correction, but nowhere near the vignette correction of the old 21 Elmarit, which both vignettes and flares as soon as you point it at light (and I kinda like that, actually). So with the 28 correction what you're seeing is the uncorrected lens vignette from your 12mm CV.. and any extra colour taint is probably buried in the vignette! egrossman Posted June 15, 2011 Share #49 Posted June 15, 2011 Anyone else notice that there is a coding profile for the 135mm APO lens in the new firmware?
Rick Posted June 15, 2011 Share #50 Posted June 15, 2011 funny stuff with this upgrade. put zip on card, upgraded the camera and off to shoot : today Im in the Hotel shooting with my WATE meeting rooms and sleeping rooms. A blessing - I thought - since I'm using wide angles and did a good long shooting in the morning. To be honest the WATE never posed me any problems but I updated anyway - couldnt hurt. For the first time I saw a red center in my photos - before than this, only in my m8 days - was easily corrected but granted, lightning sucked there. But still, funny enough, in a firmware that is supposed to fix the wide angles problems, forces me to see for the first time a red blob problem that I never seen before ! Goncalo, I also have the WATE and have not detected a red edge problem with this lens. I am extremely happy with the WATE and plan on using it for 3 weeks in Europe this summer and I don't want to create any new problems. I appreciate your report, because I wanted to wait and hear what problems this update created before I decided to download it to my M9. Because right now I have no problems with my wides (WATE, 28Cron, 35 LUX FLE, 35 Cron). Could you post a picture with the red center blob, please. Thanks for your report on the WATE. It will be interesting to see the posts on other lenses over the next few weeks. Rick
sydkugelmass Posted June 15, 2011 Share #51 Posted June 15, 2011 It seems that issues with SanDisk 8Gb speed level 6 has been solved. M9OS stable now. No more hanging up on play/zoom/pan operation during save operations (DNG UNcompressed). CV UW Heliar seems ok coded as before as 21mm pre ASPH. Ok, with the same coding the ZM 18/f4. More testing to follow with ZM 15mm/f2,8 and about saving DNG compressed on the previously cited SD card. Visible improvements, by now. Thanks Leica & Testers! Double Negative Posted June 15, 2011 Share #52 Posted June 15, 2011 Just tried my own 4/21 Color Skopar. Wide open uncoded, it's much better than before the update. Less red edge and vignetting, but still some there. Coded (as a 2,8/21 Elmarit)... Both GONE! No more need for CornerFix for this lens, basically. SWEET. This begs the question if the 4,5/21 Biogon ZM is now "usable" on the M9! This could change everything. EDIT: Actually, there's a tiny, tiny bit of red edge still when coded - but vignetting is pretty much gone. You could totally shoot this as-is and not notice it most of the time. This lens is not only "usable" on the M9 now; it's darn good!

You can select black-and-white with the new firmware, but only if you have chosen more than only DNG as format (jpeg should be included else b&w has no meaning)
BRJR Posted June 15, 2011 Share #60 Posted June 15, 2011 ..... FWIW, I just installed it - went smoothly. Image numbering was NOT reset this time. Exactly. I just upgraded, too; and, everything went quickly, no problems at all and the M9 works well.
