That is a beautiful outfit.  I am down to one film Leica and have started thinking about an M4.  My M5 is great but there is something to be said about the ergonomics of the classic Leica bodies.  I would love a black paint M4 but paying a couple thousand dollars extra just for a paint job really goes against the grain.

How do you like the 50f1.5 Nokton?  I have been using the 50f1.1 on the M5 (talk about a club) but it works great.

I recommend keeping your eye out for a re-paint, or even buying a silver camera and paying to have it done. Far less money than an original black paint of course.

Unless you get a cheap chrome M4 by the time you pay for it to be repainted its not that much cheaper than an original black paint, chrome M4s are going up in price all the time not that long ago you could pick up a nice user for £300-400. When I still had an m4p I was always on the look out for a chrome top plate to repaint and swap over as I already had all the black bits.

Back when I thought the black was always a cooler looking camera and did for probably 50 yrs, I have the chrome M4 and have really come to enjoy it more than the black version. Takes time but opinions and tastes can change

that's why one should have both...

Haven't been on the forum for a while. The M6 Millennium, the M2 and all the assorted Leica gear was sold off last year to help fund some needed home improvements. Vision problems make focusing a SLR difficult and tried autofocus but never realy bonded with it but can still focus with a rangefinder patch. This arrived about two weeks ago and a local shop sorted out the usual problems associated with a fifty year old body.

Looks great. Sorry to hear you had to leave the Millenium clan but this M4 looks truly great and I'm sure you will enjoy it every bit as much.

Phillip,

Thanks for the nice note. I can say the Millennium never made it to the shelf at the local shop. The day it was available for sale, someone was there for it when the doors opened. I tried FF digital with a Df but tired of the size and weight. Went back to the Nikon F for a while but was having trouble with accurate focus even with the split image screen. About four months ago I made the decision to scrap everything and go back to using a rangefinder camera. My initial thought was to try the M3. I kept looking for a decent one when I came across this M4. In that same period, the other decision was to just shoot B&W and start developing film at home. Been a while but the negatives are looking better all the time, scanning instead of printing is the big change. It is nice to have a M camera in my hands again. Here's the M4 dressed up, the lens is a Voigtlander collapsable 50mm 2.0 Heliar from the 250th anniversary set.
